LG Hopes You'll Like Its 5.2-Inch G2 Better With Buttons on the Back

Can't use a giant phone one-handed? LG has a solution. Its new 5.2-inch G2 phone has the sleep/wake and volume buttons on the rear of the device.

One of the problems with all these 5-plus-inch bigphones is that with a handset that size, it's difficult to reach the buttons on the tops and sides of the device if you're trying to use it one-handed. LG has implemented a creative solution in its newly announced 5.2-inch G2: Place those buttons on the rear of the device.

That's right. The front and sides of LG's latest flagship smartphone are completely devoid of buttons; the power button and volume controls are situated on the back, just below its 13-megapixel camera lens. The 5.2-inch display is 1080p HD, ringed by super-thin 0.1-inch bezels designed to facilitate one-handed use. Inside, a 2.26GHz Snapdragon 800 processor and 2 GB of RAM keeps things humming smoothly. The display also has its own RAM built-in, a design that offsets the screen's drain on the phone's resources.

No pricing or availability specifics for the G2 have been announced yet. This model joins the other giant phones in LG's high-end lineup, which we've been largely impressed with so far. We reviewed the LG Optimus G Pro earlier this summer.

On the lower end, LG is also introducing the Optimus F6 and Optimus F3. They feature 4.5-inch and 4-inch displays, respectively, and the F6 has a 5-megapixel camera. Exact camera specs for the F3's shooter weren't announced. Pricing and availability information for the F6 will be released in the coming weeks.

Both the flagship G2, the Optimus F6, and Optimus F3 will be available through T-Mobile (the 4-inch F3 for $0 down). They can be purchased with T-Mobile's contract-free Simple Choice Plan, which offers 500 MB of data and unlimited talk, text and web for $100 a month.
