Sony DSC-HX60V

Like the HX50V, the Sony HX60V includes some pretty sophisticated features, such as high resolution Panorama, Anti-blur, Hand-Held Twilight mode, GPS and HD video. It also has a 20 megapixel sensor and 30x optical zoom. You can remotely transfer image files to your iPhone and iPad via wifi. A special menu function on the HX50V & HX60V (Send to Computer) allows you to make these file transfers, since the iPhone and iPad have no SD card slot or USB port. This camera also has a convenient EV (Exposure Value) ring at the top for increasing or reducing exposure, and a flash shoe that will accommodate a more powerful external electronic flash. Newer HX models, such as the HX80V and HX90V, and most of the comparable, small point & shoot cameras on the market as of March 2018 do not have flash shoes.

Following Two Images Taken With External Flash On A Dark, Overcast Day

Although it is small, this is a very powerful flash. It will light up any room in my house, even my living room with a high ceiling. You can zoom up on flowers even if you are 10-20 feet away. This is very useful when photographing butterflies and hummingbirds. The flash is high speed (up to 1/1600 of a second): See following images of blue iris and red camellia flowers. According to one review, this flash will go to 1/4000 on the Sony NEX-6 camera.

The HX60V is very similar to the HX50V. For more details and sample images please refer to the Sony DSC-HX50V. Like the HX50V, this camera has a flash shoe. In newer models, such as the HX80, the flash shoe has been replaced with a popup electronic viewfinder. In my opinion, the flash shoe is much more useful than the viewfinder, especially if you want to photograph a family group at a large restaurant table or in a room at your home.

The most noticeable change in the HX60 is the menu system that is quite different from the HX50. It is a little daunting at first, but with the help of the on-line Help Guide PDF, you can figure it out fairly easily. The menu button brings up a screen with different icons across the top of screen. Each icon has numbered subdivisions, each of which have pull down menus. For example, to format the SD card you press Menu and highlight the Toolbox icon. Then move horizontally to the number 5 and select Format.

Sample Macro Images With Sony HX60V

I have taken numerous photographs of this beautiful, multifaceted stone with several cameras, including my Nikon SLRs on different backgrounds with and without back lighting. Hot spots on the reflective facets really detracts from flash images. I must say that I acheived the best images of this lovely stone with the HX60V in Program Mode without flash.

Source Of Four Peaks Amethyst: One Of My Favorite Places

The Four Peaks Amethyst Mine was discovered in the late 1800's on the fouth peak of the Mazatzal Mountain Range at an elevation of 6,800 feet. This is the source of Arizona's beautiful "Four Peaks Amethyst." Image taken with Nikon D-3200 with 18-200 mm Nikkor lens and polarizing filter.
