Although it is small, this is a very powerful flash. It will light up any room in my house, even my living room with a high ceiling. You can zoom up on flowers even if you are 10-20 feet away. This is very useful when photographing butterflies and hummingbirds. The flash is high speed (up to 1/1600 of a second): See following images of blue iris and red camellia flowers. According to one review, this flash will go to 1/4000 on the Sony NEX-6 camera.

The HX60V is very similar to the HX50V. For more details and sample images please refer to the Sony DSC-HX50V. Like the HX50V, this camera has a flash shoe. In newer models, such as the HX80, the flash shoe has been replaced with a popup electronic viewfinder. In my opinion, the flash shoe is much more useful than the viewfinder, especially if you want to photograph a family group at a large restaurant table or in a room at your home.

The most noticeable change in the HX60 is the menu system that is quite different from the HX50. It is a little daunting at first, but with the help of the on-line Help Guide PDF, you can figure it out fairly easily. The menu button brings up a screen with different icons across the top of screen. Each icon has numbered subdivisions, each of which have pull down menus. For example, to format the SD card you press Menu and highlight the Toolbox icon. Then move horizontally to the number 5 and select Format.
