Price fever returns?

A few years ago, the phrase "mutant orchid" created an unprecedented fever, causing ornamental flower enthusiasts to frantically hunt and buy. Mutant orchid transactions worth tens of billions, even transactions up to 250 billion VND, are heavily promoted on social networks.

Therefore, the story of mutant orchids Ngoc Son Cuoc, Dai Ngan Butterfly, Juliet, 5 white petals Phu Tho,... is no longer confined to the bonsai world but also spreads to rural areas. Many people pour billions into mutant orchids to dream of getting rich.

Mutant orchid gardens "grow like mushrooms". Small gardens have a few dozen pots, large gardens have a few hundred to thousands of mutant orchid pots. Online mutant orchid markets are also operating loudly, including markets with hundreds of thousands of people participating in buying and selling.

Up to now, although there are no official statistics on the number of mutant orchids on the market, from super rare goods to now there are as many mutant orchids as vegetables at increasingly affordable prices.

Mutated orchids that were once sold for billions are now listed for sale on the online market.

At an online mutant orchid market with 110.000 members, every day several hundred people sell mutant orchids. Worth mentioning, there are mutant orchids that were previously sold for several hundred billion, but are now widely sold for only a few hundred thousand to 1-2 million VND/pot or kie (sprouts growing from the eyes). on the body) with a length of 6-14cm.

For example, Phu My 5-petal white mutant orchid is for sale for 499.000 VND/kie; 5 Bao Duy white petals cost 2,6 million VND; Ngoc Son Cuoc costs 1,9 million VND; 5 White Snow petals cost 1,1 million VND/plant pot over 1m; Hong Minh Chau price is 250.000 VND/kie...

However, recently in the market there has been news that the price of orchids has suddenly become feverish again. Some people are selling pots of mutant orchids with 5 white Pleiku lightning petals for nearly 100 million VND, persimmon roses for nearly 130 million VND, and 5 white petals of Kinh Bac for 350 million VND.

Accompanied by the information "if you keep the orchids, you will win big" and images of big bags of money, information that there are about to be huge transactions like in 2020 - the golden age of mutant orchids with billion-dollar transfers.

Many people have rekindled their dream of getting rich and started pouring money into buying and selling mutant orchids to wait for the price to increase and make a profit.

However, some mutant orchid players immediately warned that this was just a trick to push up prices to create a virtual fever to "herd chickens". You need to be careful, because before that, there were people who poured billions into selling mutant orchids until the price crashed and then they lost everything.

Mutant orchids are now as numerous as vegetables in the market

Discuss with PV. VietNamNet, Mr. H. - a famous mutant orchid player in Hanoi, admitted that he and a group of friends once spent tens of billions of dong to buy mutant orchids for propagation. In particular, his group spent more than 20 billion to buy a pot of mutant orchids with 2 stems (60cm each stem).

This pot of orchids was then propagated and sold by him and everyone else. Last year, his association decided to transfer orchid pots for less than 1 billion VND.

According to orchid hobbyists, in the past mutant orchids were extremely expensive because they were unique and rare. Now, there are as many goods as vegetables so it is difficult for prices to spike again.

According to Mr. H., the previous mutant orchids were super expensive because they were rare and the seed source was not yet available. There may be only one pot in the whole market. With less supply and more demand, prices are pushed up, creating virtual fevers.

However, mutant orchids are quite easy to propagate. Gardeners only need to cut the kie and they can multiply into baby orchids in just a short time. When supply on the market is abundant, prices will cool down. This is also the reason mutant orchids are becoming cheaper and cheaper.

“About the past 3 years, billion-dollar orchid transactions have almost frozen. Mutant orchids cost only a few hundred to a few million dong," Mr. H. said. Therefore, he warns people not to rush to buy mutant orchids with money. Any investment requires a thorough understanding of the market and must be consistent with economic conditions. Avoid investing according to the trend, pouring billions of money to suddenly buy orchids and then not knowing where to sell them.

Prof. Dr. Le Huy Ham, former Director of the Institute of Agricultural Genetics (Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences), once shared that mutant orchids are not something too rare but only have strange elements.

According to him, mutant orchids only really bring economic value when mass-breeding for industrial production to have large sales like Phalaenopsis orchids, gradually forming the orchid industry.

“We can completely propagate orchids using In Vitro technology. Vietnam's tissue culture laboratories can completely do it if they have an order," Mr. Ham affirmed to reporters. VietNamNet.

With the In Vitro breeding method (in vitro breeding), scientists have long proven that it does not change the characteristics of the seedlings compared to the original mother plant. Therefore, from a branch or tissue of a mutant mother philodendron orchid, tens of thousands of seedlings can be multiplied, keeping the characteristics of the mother plant completely intact.

Sharing about mass breeding technology, Associate Professor, PhD. Duong Hoa Xo - Director of Ho Chi Minh City Biotechnology Center, also admitted: "In terms of plant tissue culture technology, we can mass propagate tissue culture at a very cheap price." .

Accordingly, if 1 mutant orchid is propagated using this method, it will produce thousands, even 100 orchids in just a short time.

From there, it can be seen that the unique and rare value that the garden owner "deified" to sell for billions of dollars, causing price fever again, will no longer exist when mutant orchids can be easily propagated. According to market principles, when supply exceeds demand, prices will become increasingly cheaper.

Gone are the days when 50 billion could buy 5 kie, mutant orchids now cost 500 thousand 5 kie, buyers still think it's expensiveDue to the lack of buyers, instead of selling in large quantities, large gardeners are also selling retail at prices ranging from only a few tens of thousands of dong per pot of 5 white petals, even buy one and get one free. one…
