Swedish heavy metal band Ghost returned to Syracuse on Friday.
The Grammy-winning band performed at St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater at Lakeview as part of its “Re-Imperatour” U.S. tour. Swedish death metal group Amon Amarth opened the show.
Strong winds took down a large curtain for Ghost’s opening causing a slight delay. Crews also worked continuously to dry off parts of the stage. The wind driven rain misted the stage and most of the seating area.
The crowd was fully involved with many dressing up in costumes including nuns, priests, Santa Claus, a goat mask, beaked plague doctor masks. Face paint copying the lead singer was most popular paired with creepy white colored contacts.
Ghost’s hits include “Mary On a Cross,” “Year Zero”, “Call Me Little Sunshine”, and Square Hammer”. The band performed in Syracuse in 2018 and again in 2019.
Amon Amarth opened the show with a strong audience reaction typically reserved for a headliner. Large blow up props including a huge dragon filled the stage. At one point the audience willingly responded to a request to sit down and row pretend boats.
