"I kind of got bullied in school for that...They would say that I had galis like a dog because my skin was really bad."

Despite being recognized as one of the most beautiful actresses in the Philippines, Liza Soberano has her fair share of insecurities. Six years after going viral for saying that she feels ugly โ€œall the time,โ€ Liza opened up about her lack of confidence once again in a YouTube vlog with Dr. Vicki Belo.ย

โ€œI think my number-one insecurity would be my weight. I think thatโ€™s no secret. All throughout my show biz career, I would always get criticized for my weight fluctuating back and forth,โ€ Liza revealed when prompted to talk about why she doesnโ€™t feel completely confident.ย

Liza further explained that although she sticks to a healthy lifestyle, she still holds herself to the impossibly high standards of the entertainment industry. It also doesnโ€™t help that people would often compare her to fellow female celebrities who are thinner and smaller.ย

โ€œThe rumors about me getting pregnant just because I would gain a little weight, it would really affect my mental health. When I think of myself, I donโ€™t think of myself as someone who is overweight generally,โ€ she shared. โ€œI make sure to live a healthy lifestyle so I donโ€™t think Iโ€™m unhealthy, but the demands of being in show biz physically are unattainable. I always get compared to girls that are smaller to me.โ€ย

At some point, Liza began dressing conservatively because she felt conscious of her body. She divulged, โ€œBecause Iโ€™m a halfie, I also am a little bit on the bigger side. I always tend to cover myself up with bigger sized clothing or by dressing in the same silhouettes over and over again because that became my comfort zone.โ€ย

Besides her weight, Liza is also self-conscious about her skin. Apparently, this insecurity first came up when she struggled with persistent rashes upon moving to the Philippines. โ€œI had really bad skin growing up because I had allergic reactions to the air, change in environment,โ€ she said.ย

At some point, her classmates would even liken her skin to a stray dogโ€™s: โ€œI grew up in America then came here. All of a sudden, I had these rashes on my legs. I kind of got bullied in school for that, people would call me hayop.โ€ย

โ€œThey would say that I had galis like a dog because my skin was really bad. I used to play volleyball too but I would wear high socks to cover up my legs,โ€ she stated, adding that bullies continued criticizing her dark knees even when she became a celebrity. โ€œComing into show biz, I remember people would always point out my knees and how they were all scarred up and also very dark compared to everyone else who had flawless skin. That also triggered insecurity in myself.โ€ย
