Cattleya dowiana v. aurea is one of the most beautiful of the cattleya species which has been a treasure for collectors since its discovery in 1850. It is the only cattleya species of the Cattleya labiata group that has yellow sepals and petals, and with its dark crimson-purple lip veined with gold, and is magnificent. 1-6 flowers per spike. Flowers are fragrant and 6" across. Because of its beautiful color, C. dowiana has had a long history of use in breeding
