As of Friday, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon officially welcomed new customers, as well as those who wanted an upgrade, to the iPhone family. In the wee hours of the morning (East Coast time), pre-orders began for the Apple iPhone 4S. If you haven't jumped online just yet, or you simply prefer the in-person shopping experience, you can head to your retailer of choice on Friday, October 14th to pick up the 4S. So, what now? While you're waiting to get your hands on that precious smartphone, you may want to start shopping for what is likely the next most important purchase: the case. How will you protect that pricey phone? Yes, there are some who forego the case entirely, hesitant to add any millimeters or ounces to this marvel of design. Others of us take the cautionary route, preferring a little assurance as we tote around our prized possession. While you may not have gone the case route before, consider this: Like the iPhone 4, the iPhone 4S has a glass front and back. In other words, it's trés delicate.

As I'm sure you know by now, cases come in a variety of sizes, colors, and shapes. They range from the sleek to the absurd. What's appropriate for one user may be completely unappealing to another. I think some of the cases included here are a hoot (inside joke…you'll get it when you cycle through the slideshow), but they wouldn't be my personal choice. Hopefully, I've included a little something for everyone. Oh, and do be sure to check that the case fits your new phone. Don't assume.
