Story of A Lotus Flower 2007 (Renew)

by Kelvin Khor

My passion of photographing lotus flowers went back to 2000 when I acquired my first digital camera; Olympus C3030Z. The combination of digital camera and lotus flowers ignited my love for photography. Lotus flower only blossoms from end of April to early July in Shenzhen city of GuangDong, China, where I was living for six and half years. A fully-grown flower normally did not last more than a week. They were elegant, delicate yet fragile.

As lotus normally grew a distance away from lake’s bank, the limited C3030Z focal length was simply not enough. I cried for a tele-lens. So, before next summer, I replaced it with Olympus C2100UZ, a 2MP PnS with zoom 38-380mm. I was thrilled. The 10X zoom range enabled me to capture lotus flowers that were not possible before. However, I soon discovered limitations of PnS and bought myself a Canon D60 and my first L lens 70-200 F2.8L IS. I was poorer but much satisfied and happier. All pictures were taken with this combo and some attached with Sigma EX 1.4x TC.

This is a story about a lotus flower. Surprisingly it is closely relate to a lot of us. Isn't it?

When I was young, I lived under cradle of my mother. ;)

Growing up was a process. My world was over powered by adult.

Being youth, the only thing I did was playing with friends.

Soon, I wanted to fall in love just like everyone else.

But I learnt love in first sight was only a story that told in fairy tale.

Then, without knowing, I reached adult hood. And I was beautiful.

However, the world was not as fun as I could remember. I constantly looked back and enjoy the innocent of children.

I became lonely…

So I worked very hard to get recognition.

But, when I reach the top, I soon found out the world on top was even lonelier. And all I heard was Buzz zzz :)
