This species is native to Brazil where it grows in a wide range of areas across several states. These can be found growing on rocks as lithophytes and epiphytically in trees. This is a very tolerant orchid and will grow in a wide range of temperatures, making it a relatively easy species to grow and flower. A fine cross of an excellent striata (stripped petal) form crossed with the sanguinea (rose-colored) form. We expect these to bloom with some striping and dark pink coloration. They will be variable but there will be some interesting winners. The flower photos are of the 'Jason's Choice' clone, followed by an example of a sanguinea form flower. This cross was created in 2009 and grown from seed.
When Listed In-Spike: These plants flower in late April or May. We prefer to ship these in-sheath when the buds are in development, as this prevents damage to the buds and flowers in transit.
