Common Name Martine's Scaphosepalum [Mrs. Cloes Scaphosepalum, Belgian original co-collector of species]

Flower Size 1/2" [1.25 cm]

Found in Peru without collection data as a small sized, cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, acute, gradually narrowing below into the slender, petiolate bse leaf that blooms in the summer on a slender, arising from low on the ramicaul, rigid, roughly scabrous, distichous, slightly flexuous, 3.2" to 4" [8 to 10 cm] long, loosely flowered below congested above, successively many flowered inflorescence with obtuse, just shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.

"Similar to Scaphosepalum breve with the slender, coarsely scabrous peduncle, but the new species is distinguished by the denely scabrous-verrucose ovary, unspotted sepals with verrucose tails of the lateral sepals , a deeply denticulate, rounded epipichile of the lip with a membraneous, broadly subquadrate hypochile and an extremely narrow isthmus."
