Common Name or Meaning Smallman's Masdevallia [English Orchid Enthusiast current]

Found in southern Costa Rica and Chiriqui province of Panama at elevations around 1300 to 2500 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 thin, close, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly obovate, obtuse,gradually narrowing below into the indistinct petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter on an erect, 2 to 2.4" [5 to 6 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with a bract near the base, arising from low on the ramicaul and has a tubular floral bract and holding the flower at leaf height.
