Common Name Sander's Houlletia [English Orchidist 1800's]

Flower Size 1 1/5" [3 cm]

Found in Colombia, eastern Ecuador and Peru in very wet montane forests at elevations of 1000 to 2000 meters as a large sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial on steep embankments with pyriform longitudinally ribbed pseudobulbs enveloped basally by a few dry, scarious sheaths and carries a single, thin, plicate, elliptic, acuminate leaf that narrows basally into the elongate, sulcate petiole and blooms in the fall and winter on an erect, basal, 18" [45 cm] long, loosely several flowered inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb with very strongly fragrant flowers .
