Common Name The Triangular Dracula
Flower Size 1.6" [4 cm]
Found in Azuay and Zamora-Chinchipe departments of Ecuador in cloud forests on both sides of the Andes at elevations of 2600 to 3000 meters as a small sized, cold growing epiphyte with erect ranicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3, loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thinly coriaceous, carinate, elliptical, acute, gradually narrowing below into the conduplicate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer on a slender, horizontal to descending, arising from low on the ramicaul, sparsely bracted, single flowered inflorescence and with thin, tubular, shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.
" Easily recognized by the small, pale, fleshy, pubescent, triangular flowers with short tails. The color of the petals varies from ivory to greenish white. The shallow epiphile of the small lip is scarcely larger that hte hypochile. The ovary is crested.
