The Maserati brand was founded in Bologna, Italy in 1914 by the Maserati brothers, and in 1926, they started creating their own iconic vehicles that began sporting the Maserati logo.
In 1920, one of the Maserati brothers got an idea from Marquis Diego de Sterlich, who was a family friend, to create a badge that had Neptune’s trident on it and to use that image for the logo. Years later, the logo made its first appearance when Maserati launched the Tipo 26.
The headquarters for Maserati was eventually relocated to Modena in 1940, but the trident of Neptune became ingrained with the brand of Maserati.
