Real Madrid defender Jesus Vallejo has talked in an interview with MARCA, where he revealed that he wants to stay in the club past this upcoming summer.

“Zidane has not talked to me about the future yet, we just reviewed the season, but I want to stay for sure,” said Vallejo. “I’m very happy in the club and I feel the fans and my teammates love me. The coach also gave me the confidence to play the last few games and I’m looking forward to the start of the season so that I can help the team,” he added.

The Spanish defender got on the field during the last few games of the season after suffering many injuries which kept him out of the team for most of the year.

“It’s a shame the season is ending because I was playing well and when that happens you just want to keep competing. I used the last few games to get in good shape and improve my confidence towards the upcoming U21 Euro,” explained Vallejo.

“It’s been a tough season for me, especially because of the injuries. It hasn’t been easy but I learned to do my best. I’m happy with how it ended because I managed to play and I felt good. Speaking about the team, we have to improve and learn a lot from what happened this season,” said a very mature Vallejo.

The truth is that the defender might need to leave the club this summer in order to find relevant minutes. Real Madrid decided to sign defender Eder Militao, who will join the club next month, and that means that they will have three world-class defenders competing for two spots in the starting lineup.

Nacho would have the edge over Vallejo for the fourth spot as a center-back unless he decides to leave the club to be a starter elsewhere, something which could ultimately give Vallejo a chance to stay in the Spanish capital.
