We're looking forward to meeting the team at Calliditas Therapeutics at World Orphan Drug Congress USA next week! Calliditas Therapeutics is a rare disease company currently working on autoimmune diseases, specifically nephropathy (igAN). Their FDA-approved treatment, #Tarpeyo, has been on the market for a couple years, and is highly effective for patients for adults with Berger disease, which causes a build-up in the protein immunoglobulin A (IgA). The World Orphan Drug Congress USA is right around the corner. We are so excited to meet some of the brightest minds and most motivated teams in rare disease! One of those teams is Mereo BioPharma, a mission-driven company currently working on genetic bone condition, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, severe Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency-associated Lung Disease (AATD-LD), and metastatic solid tumors. They currently have six clinical-stage product candidates in their pipeline. What we love about them is that they take high-potential novel therapies that aren't being progressed and develop them by providing the resources they need to move closer to launch. Interestingly enough, they are partnering with another rare disease company we love, Ultragenyx, on their setrusumab drug for OI. This drug reduced bone fractures by 67%. This painful genetic condition causes patients' bones to fracture without cause.
