Prosthechea radiata, also known as the Octopus Orchid, is an intriguing orchid species with unique and captivating flowers. It features small to medium-sized blooms that resemble the tentacles of an octopus, hence its common name. The flowers have a pale yellow to greenish base color, with reddish-brown markings and a fringed lip. Prosthechea radiata is a fascinating addition to any orchid collection, drawing attention with its distinctive floral display.

This summer bloomer emits a delightful fragrance and showcases beautiful pale green flowers. What makes it unique is that the flowers open in an inverted position, with the flower lip facing upwards.

The flowers measure approximately 1.5" and are situated on an upright stem. Their color is a pale green, and the prominent purple striated lip adds an eye-catching touch. The scent of these flowers is reminiscent of root beer. Prosthechea radiata is a highly fragrant species that blooms throughout the fall, winter, and spring.

Its inflorescence is apical, short, reaching up to 4" (10 cm), and bears a few to many flowers (4 to 12). The blooming process follows a sequential pattern, with one flower opening after another. Prosthechea radiata, belonging to the same genus, is an epiphytic orchid that also blooms from fall to spring. Its inflorescence produces four to twelve fragrant flowers.
