Introducing the exquisite Cattleya jenmanii var. rubra, a rare and highly sought-after orchid variety that will captivate collectors and enthusiasts alike. With its deep rubra colored flowers in shades of dark red and purple, this select sib cross showcases unique and stunning colors not commonly seen in this type of orchid.

Originating from Guyana and Venezuela, this small-sized, hot to warm growing, unifoliate epiphytic species thrives in deep forests along rivers at elevations of 300 to 600 meters. It experiences a wet season during the summer and fall, followed by a dry season in the winter and spring. The plants feature clavate, clustered, compressed pseudobulbs surrounded by 4 persistent sheaths, and they bear a single apical, elliptic-oblong, coriaceous, acute leaf. The vibrant blooms emerge during the summer and fall, showcasing their splendor on a short to 4" [10 cm], terminal, few [3 to 7] flowered inflorescence supported by a mature pseudobulb and a basal spathe.

Hailing from South America, particularly Venezuela and Brazil, this Cattleya species is known for its propensity to produce clusters of 3 or more fragrant flowers per newly matured growth, typically in late summer and early fall. Grown from seed, these plants boast a pedigree that guarantees their exceptional quality and rarity.

Cultivating the Cattleya jenmanii var. rubra is an exciting endeavor that promises not only an olfactory delight but also a visual feast. With its darker coloration compared to the standard variety, this orchid showcases its uniqueness and exclusivity. Currently in an active growth phase, you'll notice the dark spotting on their leaves, indicating their ability to produce exquisitely shaped and fragrant flowers.

To ensure optimal growth and blooming, provide moderate to high humidity and strong air circulation for your orchid. Depending on your preference, it can be grown potted, in a basket, or mounted. If you choose to pot it, we recommend ceramic or clay pots with ample drainage holes to facilitate proper airflow to the roots. During the active growth period, which typically occurs in spring and summer, water the plants generously. In cooler months, reduce watering frequency. However, regardless of the season, it's crucial to allow the roots and substrate to dry out between watering to prevent root rot and maintain the overall health of your orchid.
