Immerse yourself in the world of orchids with our exceptional creation, the primary hybrid between Cattleya dowiana x Cattleya warscewiczii var. semi alba 'coerulescens'. Orchid enthusiasts and collectors alike will be captivated by this rare and exquisite orchid variety.

Native to the lush rainforests of the Andes in Colombia, Cattleya dowiana is an orchid species that commands attention. Its medium-sized, cool to warm growing epiphytic nature adds to its allure. The most striking feature of this variety is its large, golden-yellow flowers that exude a delightful vanilla fragrance. Blooming during the spring and summer months, these enchanting blossoms can mesmerize for weeks on end. Standing tall on an upright stem, they are surrounded by broad, dark green leaves, creating a stunning visual display.

When combined with Cattleya warscewiczii var. semi alba 'coerulescens', this hybrid produces a refined aurea version, boasting impressive shape and color. Cattleya dowiana x Cattleya warscewiczii var. semi alba 'coerulescens' is a rare gem, characterized by its magnificent large white flowers and a vibrant magenta purple lip. While not as scarce as the alba form, semi-alba C. warscewiczii remains a prized find among the vast array of Cattleya species.

To cultivate this hybrid successfully, it is crucial to provide the right conditions. Begin by initiating the growth of C. warscewiczii in late January or early February, ensuring it receives ample sunlight and light sprays of water on sunny days. Once the "eye" or growing point begins to emerge, continue misting the plant and exposing it to as much sunlight as it can tolerate without overheating. Adequate airflow is essential to prevent leaf overheating, as the leaves should maintain a yellow-green hue. Should the leaves feel warm to the touch, adding shade becomes necessary to protect the plant from scorching.

Until the new growth reaches a height of at least 4 inches, it is advisable to limit the amount of water given to the plant. Premature excessive watering may hinder flower production rather than stimulate it. Even as waterings become heavier, always allow the plant to thoroughly dry out before watering again. By the time the new leaf starts emerging, the old pseudobulbs should be plump and firm.

To achieve an elegant spike of flowers, it is important to prevent the plant from becoming excessively warm as the buds emerge from the sheath. High temperatures can cause the spike to curve and result in horizontally spread flowers instead of their desired vertical arrangement. If outside temperatures exceed 90°F, consider relocating the C. warscewiczii to a cool porch once the buds begin to show until the entire spike has fully blossomed.

The best time to repot C. warscewiczii is immediately after it has finished flowering. This is when the plant typically sends out a fresh set of roots from the newest pseudobulb. Avoid repotting just before the growth cycle commences, as the plant requires all available roots to support the new growth and flower spike.

This is a T6” in a 2" clay pot, newly repotted, about 2 to 3 years to bloom, grown from seed, limited!

Indulge in the beauty of this extraordinary orchid hybrid and elevate your collection with the mesmerizing combination of Cattleya dowiana x Cattleya warscewiczii var. semi alba 'coerulescens'
