Scribbled pipefish

Corythoichthys intestinalis

"Corythoichthys intestinalis" is a species of marine fish in the family Syngnathidae. The Scribbled pipefish is widespread throughout the tropical waters of the central Indo-Pacific region. The Scribbled pipefish is a small size fish and can reach a maximum size of 16 cm length.

It can grow up to 18 cm (7 in.). It is whitish to pale yellowish with dark wavy or reticulated line stripes, absent on back. Diffuse dark body bars. Usually in pairs, occasionally in aggregations.

Behavior

Adults occur in shallow sandy or mixed sand, rubble, or coral areas of reef flats and lagoons, also sometimes on seaward reefs. The Scribbled pipefish is ovoviviparous. The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail.
