Lankesteriana barbulata, La Isla Escondida, Colombia
Correction: thought this was a lepanthes, but it's another genus of miniature orchids. Full plant:
Many (most?) miniature orchids grow high up in the canopy, therefore freshly fallen trees are a great place to look for them. That said, I will remove the geotag of every miniature orchid found, as these are actively poached from the wild.
And finally, this completes our first day in La Isla Escondida, with several more days and nights to come :)
Pleurothallis barbulata, the Small Beard Pleurothallis, is a bonnet orchid in the Pleurothallis genus. Found in Nayarit, Oaxaca and Chiapas states of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Venezuela in rainforests on very thin branches at elevations of 150 to 2000 meters.
