Enigmatic and aloof FBI profiler Lincoln Frazer falls for a woman hiding dark secrets...

When old evidence turns up on a fresh corpse, ASAC Lincoln Frazer is determined it won't delay the execution of a convicted serial killer. But when more young women are brutally slain, it becomes clear—this new killer is intimately familiar with the old murders.

After her mother's death, former Army Captain Dr. Isadora Campbell resigned her commission in order to return to the Outer Banks to raise her rebellious teenage sister. But Izzy hides a terrible secret, and it doesn't take long to realize someone knows exactly what she did, all those years ago.

Thrust together during the investigation, Frazer and Izzy find themselves reluctantly attracted to one another. The truth about Izzy's past drives Frazer away as he struggles with her deception. The killer strikes again, and now the race is on to save Izzy from the same fate as all the other dead girls.

A convicted murderer is days away from execution when a body is found in the NC Outer Banks that has his signature. FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Lincoln Frazer is dispatched to investigate as he doesn't want anything delaying this creep's date with death. He collides with Dr. Isabel (Izzy) Campbell who was one of the first on the scene and has a personal connection. While their attraction is immediate, it's in both of their best interests to not go there.

This was an extremely creepy and disturbing story that kept me off balance until the end. Izzy's secret wasn't revealed in one big scene, but slowly unveiled throughout the story and woven masterfully with the pace of current events. Lincoln was über chilly and it was delightful to see him finally be disarmed by Izzy. I also liked how utterly skilled he was as an investigator. Nothing got in his way.

I changed my deductions about the identity of the killer and the plot so many times it was embarrassing. Just another well done story in this series with scary villains, exciting climaxes and steamy romances. I'm ready for the next one and Anderson will forever be an auto buy.

The fourth book in Toni Anderson's Cold Justice series. ASAC Lincoln Frazer is in North Carolina to investigate a murder that seems connected to a serial killer on death roll. Dr. Isadora Campbell is a former Army Captain that resigned her commission to care for her younger sister when her mother died. She had been out with her dog when she arrived on the scene of the crime and helped save one of the victims. Now she is renting a cottage to the FBI during their investigation. She and Frazer are attracted to each other but both are wary of commitments.

Another excellent addition to the series. There is the mystery of what it is that Izzy helped her mother do and, of course, the identity of the killer. No great surprises but getting there was enjoyable and entertaining. Great series and highly recommended to Romantic Suspense fans!

Great book by one of the best authors writing today. I has small problems with the hero, Fraser. He was a controlling, cold jerk at times. He buried his emotions so deep that it would take a excavator to dig them out. The heroine, Izzy, was only a little better. It make caring for them hard to do. There were a couple of mysteries to be solved in the plot and it kept you guessing right up to the end.

Two teens are attacked in the dunes on the South Carolina Outer Banks on New Year's eve. The girl, Helena, dies. The boy, Jesse, survives. The girl is found wearing a medical alert ID belonging to another girl who was claimed as a victim by a serial killer now on death row within a month of his execution date. This brings in the FBI to try and find out how the bracelet of a girl dead for 17 year ended up on a fresh victim. SASC Lincoln Fraser wants to insure that serial killer Ferris Denker dies as scheduled. This means finding out what is going on and catching the new murderer.

Dr. Isobel Campbell has secrets of her own and is not at all happy at the attraction that sparks when she meets the handsome FBI agent. That the killer knows something of her secret is terrifying to her. With her 17 year old sister, Kit, the victims best friend, Izzy is caught up in the investigation and has no idea how it will turn out. When the ties to Denker make it appear he had a partner who is trying to derail the execution, Fraser is concerned that more young women are going to die. Finding another serial killer and fighting his attraction to Izzy and her secrets is a tough balancing act for a man who is all about the job.

Cold Fear by Toni Anderson is book 4 in the Cold Justice series and this one is my favourite so far (but I also enjoyed the other 3 too 👍) this one is a little more gory and definitely more of a whodunit guessing game.
It's a fast pulse pounding thriller which will keep you on your toes.
The character's in this series are such a joy to read which makes the storylines easier to read and follow.
I love the whole FBI agent being the alpha male/female doing his/her job and still finds time to give us a Steamy HEA even with the storylines being a little dark and dangerous.
I definitely recommend this series 📖

This book in the series didn't hit any marks for me, storyline or romance. The chemistry between Frazer and Izzy was very bland and while the storyline was decent, several characters made it unbearable for me to even try to enjoy the story because of their uncalled for behavior. I liked Izzy well enough but when she let people walk all over her and didn't put up a fight to defend herself, I lost some respect for her. Frazer was cold hearted and and too uptight. I don't feel his heart was in it for her. He felt more robotic as if he gave in to temptation because he needed sexual release. He was too much of a hardass for me to sympathize and embrace his character. I don't like how controlled he was either, he seemed like he was restricting himself from being too open with her, showing he didn't trust her and didn't want to try to trust her either.

Kit was an ungrateful, spoiled, b*tch. I can't believe how someone like Izzy would let that brat treat her like crap when she put her career on hold so she could come take care of her because she didn't want to make Kit leave her home, school, and friends for her last year. Someone needed to step in to knock that girl down several pegs and give her a reality check at how lucky she was that her sister cared enough not only to take over her care so she didn't go to foster care which would have been a rude awakening for her but that Izzy put her sister's needs before her own and Kit repaid her love and kindness by getting herself in trouble, making sarcastic remarks with every word that came out of her mouth, disrespecting her sister for trying to encourage her to do better in school. I was disappointed that Frazer nor anyone else stepped in and gave Kit a verbal lashing at how disrespectful she was being to her sister and how lucky she was that her sister didn't just leave her to go with a foster family or hand over her guardianship to someone else when Kit proved to be too much trouble for her to handle. If that were my sister and she treated me like crap when I was trying to help her in the right direction, I would have said screw it, I don't need this, I gave up my job to be here for you, you wanna be an adult, you wanna know what it's like to live with people who won't put up with your shit, I'm gone, have a nice life, spoiled b*tch.

I couldn't enjoy the rest of the story because Kit and Frazer's behavior was atrocious and a mood killer when Izzy had the personality of someone who didn't take anyone's crap but let the two people closest to her get away with their treatment of her. Frazer also had no problem using her secret as an excuse to push her away which I feel was the last straw for him. I get he's a cop who helps catch killers but he didn't even consider how her situation was different to what he's used to seeing. She was innocent, she was young, she was put in a situation no one should eve be in let alone a child, she had no option in her mind in order to save her sister's life because her mother was an idiot and obviously not completely sane as proven by how she dealt with what happened. Her only crime was trusting her insane mother knew best, she fought for doing the right thing until her mother threatened her own unborn child's life because oh the scandal would be terrible (eye roll)...She put her sister's life before her need to do the right thing because she was just a kid, scared out of her mind, confused and traumatized as her mom just killed her father who might or might not have been a killer. Frazer held her responsible for something that wasn't her fault because he was looking for an excuse to run from his feelings. He didn't deserve her forgiveness or respect. She should have kicked him to the curb for his unfair judgement of her secret that affected the rest of her life and guilt already haunted her every day since that night.

I was also hoping to see Kit find out her ever perfect living mother threatened to kill her before she was even born and the sister she hates and disrespects so much is the only reason she's alive and that the reason her sister left and never came home to visit was technically, all because of her (evil mocking laugh)...Sadly it didn't happen, but I love picturing it in my mind at how karma kicked the spoiled brat in the butt and gave her a reality check.

The identity of the killer was once again a surprise to me as I thought it was someone else the entire time but I was really disappointed in who it was. It's almost like the author picks the most boring, random person in the story and builds it around them from there. I get that the angle she's going for is the least unlikely person you'll expect to be a killer because either you're not really paying attention to them as they have a minor role or they're just so bland and uninteresting that it never occurs to you that they could have a dark side. My take on it is,there's no more excitement and it's anti-climactic when it turns out to be someone who was only in a couple of chapters and someone so unsuspecting as we didn't get to see much of them at all because the author wanted to keep the mystery factor and purposely gave them minimal scenes so we'd never suspect them. I personally love when a killer turns out to be someone you suspected at least once in the book while suspecting several people and reasons why throughout the book or when it's someone so close to the main character but you never guessed because they seemed so trustworthy and had no motive that you knew of or did have a motive but when it's revealed it makes sense. I feel like with this book, the previous, and the first one, if she had made the killer someone close to the character and cleverly done connecting a story to them, I would have enjoyed it a lot more and the off romance would have have been a very minor flaw that wouldn't have detracted my enjoyment of the story in general. Overall, it could have been better but it isn't the worst I've read.

3/5; 3 stars; B+

I liked many aspects of this conclusion to the Cold Justice series. There was a really solid plot and mystery line as well as a host of interesting characters. I was happy to see the cold and businesslike Frazer get knocked off his pins in the romance department and find a woman to love!

The one thing that brought my rating down was a trope I really don't like, and that is the one where the suspense is artificially heightened by one of the main characters thinking or talking about a secret obsessively. The main female character had a deep dark secret from the past and, for the first half of the book, she keep thinking about how much she was attracted to Lincoln but 'if he ever finds out my secret it will ruin everything'. I really don't mind seeing maybe one mention of the secret but when its over and over I find it annoying and manipulative.

All in all, this was still a good book and a fitting conclusion to the series.

Cold Fear is book four in the Cold Justice series by Toni Anderson. When new bodies started to turn up FBI profiler ASAC Lincoln Frazer started to investigate to ensure they do not stop the convicted serial killer execution. During ASAC Lincoln Frazer's investigation into the new murders, it became clear there was a new killer. Army Captain Dr Isadora Campbell's mother dies. She resigns her commission to come home, to look after her sister and became involved in the investigation. However, Dr Isadora Campbell held a secret that caused her to become the killer's next victim. The readers of Cold Fear will continue to follow the ASAC Lincoln Frazer investigation to find Isadora.

Cold Fear is another fantastic book by Toni Anderson. I love Toni Anderson portrayal of her characters and the way they intertwine with each other. Cold Fear was well written and researched by Toni Anderson. I like Toni Anderson description of her settings and the way the settings compliments the plot of this book.

The readers of Cold Fear will understand the importance of not keeping family secrets. Also, the readers of Cold Fear will learn about the role of FBI profiler in law enforcement investigating.

I recommend this book.

Cold Fear
3 Stars

When evidence from an old case is found on the body of a new victim, the FBI's behavioral analysis unit is called in, and ASAC Lincoln Frazer travels to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to ensure that a vicious killer doesn't escape his appointment with death. Dr. Isadora Campell has returned to the Outer Banks to care for her rebellious teenage sister, but a terrible secret from her past connected to the current investigation threatens both her freedom and her life.

While the serial killer mystery is well-plotted with a particularly sick and twisted villain, the romance falls flat.

The suspense portion of the book is gripping with a solid pool of suspects that keeps the reader guessing until the very end. The opening sequence is heart-wrenching, and some readers may find the descriptions upsetting.

Unfortunately, the romance section is very lackluster. Linc and Izzy's reluctant attraction is bland and their chemistry is non-existent. Neither one of them is particularly appealing as Linc is so cold and controlled that it is difficult to empathize with and connect to him. His backstory, which is supposedly meant to explain his chilly demeanor, is revealed too late and in such a pragmatic way, that it has no effect on the reader's perception of his character.

Likewise, Izzy's past is revealed in drips and drabs, and the secret-keeping trope is exceedingly annoying, especially considering the fact that she is well aware of the deadly consequences of continuing to remain silent.

There are also some minor writing issues, such as the overuse of the word "guy", and one or two paragraphs with problematic sentence structure that has the unwanted effect of confusing the reader as to what is going on.

All in all, not one of the better installments in the series, which is disappointing as Linc's character was very intriguing in the previous books and I was eager for his HEA.

I wanted to read more about Lincon Frazer from book one.
I didn't like the romance. She didn't deserve him..and overall I didn't feel it.
The mystery part was amazing. This was a guessing game until the very end.

If you enjoy watching Criminal Minds this is a book for you!!

I was just going back and looking at my reviews for the previous books in this series and realized that each book is so different. Usually an author has some “trait” that carries over in their books – maybe something in the plot or the sex scenes or words used – I can honestly say there is nothing the same in these 4 books. We’ve had assassins and a secret group that takes justice in their own hands, a terrorist group and bombing on US soil, Russian spies and espionage and now two twisted serial killers. You defiantly don’t know what to expect from this author book to book.

At the start of the series we met FBI profiler Lincoln Frazer. He has always fascinated me with how closed off he is with his emotions yet a brilliant profiler who is described as being very good looking but would never open himself up enough to get involved in an emotional relationship. He lives for the job, for making sure every serial killer and bad guy gets put behind bars or dead if that is the only reasonable outcome to stopping them. But as we find out in this book underneath that tough exterior is a man that is haunted by a few of his choices and one who does occasionally wonder what it would be like to love and be loved by a strong woman.

With most of his team not available he decides to take a case himself of a murder of a young girl wearing something from a very old case and was thought to have been from a murdered victim whose killer is on death row. What he doesn’t count on is finding himself attracted to the ER Dr who he meets at the scene of the crime.

I wondered what type of woman would be a good fit for Frazer and I’m glad that the author chose one that had some pretty ugly secrets in her past too and was also a tough former Army Captain that had closed of her emotions long ago too. She gave up her Army career to raise her teenage sister when her mother died. It was quite humorous watching these two who normally live their lives closed off to emotions internally try and fight their feelings and at first not really even recognizing that what they were feeling was sexual attraction.

Even though there were no big terrorist plots or espionage happening in this book the mystery of who the second killer was and how he was tied to the killer on death row kept you guessing – I totally guessed wrong which is always a nice change.

I’m glad we got to see a more personal side to Lincoln Frazer who even had a bit of a dominance thing going on in the bedroom which just made him all the more sexier. Cant wait to see who’s story will be next..

REVIEWED ON BEHALF OF http://bookaddict.live,
I do love a good suspense series, and this one of them. It seems all agents are finding the love of their lives. The most emphasis is put on solving crimes, and the agents in this case are chasing a serial killer operating in the style a murderer seating on death row, and he is only weeks away from death.
FBI agent Frazier is determined to make sure the serial killer sitting on Death Row doesn’t gets away it, all because we have copycat operating in this area. Former Army Captain Dr Isadora Campbell is on the beach a young woman is found dead on the sand dunes where she was walking her dog.
I loved the complexity of the plot. I changed my mind two or three times about who the murderer was and I still got it wrong.
The character development was also very strong and this is true for the side characters as well. There was an emotional depth to this thriller which I find is often missing from the mass produced romantic suspense titles saturating the market. I can’t wait to listen to the rest of the series.
I have to say that I found the first few chapters quite sad and emotional. Rape is a sensitive and difficult topic to write about and when it involves the murder of a young girl you can’t help but feel shocked and saddened. The friends’ and parents’ grief was almost tangible in these opening chapters.
I have listened to many of Eric G. Dove’s other performances and have always enjoyed listening to him but, he did an amazing job with this one and I’ve seen saw his name on plenty of titles in different genres after listening to this one I think it would help persuade me to buy it.

Cold Fear is ASAC Lincoln Frazer's (or probably better remembered as the emotionless, cold bastard in the rest of the Cold Justice series) story, which happens when a mishap with Mallory Rooney and Alex Parker forces him to take a trip to the Outer Banks in search of a serial killer. It's there that he meets Isadora Campbell, a former Army doctor who resigned to be the legal guardian of her younger sister, and whose secrets will hinder his investigative work - despite how much they're drawn to each other.

As far as it goes, this is a pretty solid read that's as expected from the calibre of Toni Anderson, at least when it comes to the tightly-written procedural drama that ensues from the very beginning. While I don't necessarily buy the miraculous quickness with which Izzy and Linc fall for each other (I've always though it takes months or years for barriers to fall), Frazer's story is like a gripping episode in a drama series (without much of a continuing story arc anywhere else) that doesn't involve anything more exotic like international spies and assassins, but Ms. Anderson nails the atmosphere and the grittiness of the dirty secrets people keep in a small town.

I have loved everyone of Toni's books and once again, she doesn't disappoint.

This romantic thriller is an example in its genre with an intricate balance between intrigue, suspense, and hotly charged romance.

The restrained and aloof Linc, familiar from the previous books in this series, finally brought to his knees, both literally and figuratively by a reluctant, but intrigued Isobel (Izzy). Izzy is a witness in the attack on two teens and is drawn into an investigation that not only features two serial killers, but spans many years of violence and secrets. As investigating FBI agent, Linc does his best not to breach the lines, but his attraction to Izzy proves to be too strong. But then the secrets come floating to the surface......

A fabulous, thrilling and intense read!

Just gave the audiobook a try and I struggled to connect with the characters, the storyline was as expected with this author. 5 star storyline, 4 star characters.

I’m “rereading” the series via the audiobooks, I’ve loved all the books so far, currently listening to the next one in the series and I’m already attached those characters.

Fantastic romantic suspense!

A little conflicted about this one. I really like the characters and the plot, but the pacing dragged in the front and it made me impatient. Still, as a crime/suspense, it had great twists.

Cold Fear by Toni Anderson
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Crime, Mystery, Romance, Suspense
4.5 Stars

The loss of star points was from the pace in the romance department and repetitive thoughts of both mc's. The repetitive thoughts weren't numerous, but they happened enough times to irritate me. I hate repetition of any kind and I will admit I am sensitive to it.

I loved both mc's. Both Frazer and Izzy were strong personalities and highly intelligent. They both had flaws, secrets and huge responsibilities.

The attraction was instant, but they both ignored it. Fought it at every step. The build-up to their 'Wowzer' moment was a slow burn. I started to think it wasn't going to happen when they finally capitulated. It was well worth the wait. Hot and steamy love scenes commenced and they were just shy of what some would describe as erotica. Ms. Anderson even managed to add a touch of humor in their intimate scenes. She also used the scenes to connect the characters and readers alike.
Well Done!

The suspense, mystery, and crime aspects were spot on. You even got the serial killer's pov in small doses. Talk about creepy!

The investigation was well written. Everything moved in a mostly realistic method. Although there were some things with procedure etc. that were stretched. These areas added to the story's intensity, the personality of the characters and the world build.

I am so glad I didn't give up on this series. I almost did after book #3. This one has completely redeemed my faith in the author and I plan on continuing this series for a long time to come.

Toni Anderson seems to have hit the mark yet again with her latest installment in the Cold Justice series that I’ve been hooked on ever since it came out. Toni has a writing style that seems effortless in the ease with which she draws you in, and creates characters that tends to leave their mark on you. The fourth book in the series served all that and more and I cannot say enough good things about it!

A homicide practically in the middle of nowhere grabs the attention of ASAC Lincoln Frazer, the head of BAU at FBI, for reasons that sends chills of foreboding down his spine, hoping against hope that he be proved wrong. While a girl killed in some seemingly random murder might not be Frazer’s usual cup of tea, it is the news that something more sinister might be at play that propels him to drop everything and head out to the scene of crime, to contain, control and find a killer who most probably has been killing for more than half his life.

Dr. Isadora Campbell (Izzy) serves as an ER doctor and is the guardian of her seventeen year old sister Kit who seems to test and try her patience at the turn of every corner. When it is Kit’s best friend that turns up dead, and the site of the murder is an all too familiar place for her for comfort, Izzy finds herself battling more than a guilty conscience when the sexy and all too commanding special agent Frazer walks into her life.

While Frazer has his work cut out for him to find a killer who seems to escalate way too fast for anybody’s comfort, it is his inability to compartmentalize as effortlessly as he has done in previous cases that makes Frazer flustered more than anything else. Thinking himself above emotions such as love and the need for things such as long term relationships, Frazer fools himself into believing that he can just walk away from Izzy when all’s said and done. And in the meantime, the clock seems to tick, ever more so closer towards the inevitable, and the secret that Izzy guards close to her heart might be the key to unraveling the entire case as well as the one thing that could break whatever fragile connection that has forged into life between Izzy and Frazer.

If you, as myself, have been a follower of the series from its beginning, you’d completely understand the fascination one might develop for Frazer. The man screams issues buried deep inside from that rigid control of his to the complete command and utter authority he holds over everyone else and if there’s anything that fascinates me in romances more than a hero who is anal about keeping people at a distance, I would be kidding myself. Frazer’s dark soul is one that reaches out to you, wraps its wispy tentacles deep around your heart and pulls with a force that does you in. Frazer certainly lived up to his image, but the icy wall around his heart which had been cracking under emotional pressure from previous books crumbles when he falls for Izzy, hard and fast. All sorts of deliciousness follows wherever Frazer goes in the story. And I enjoyed and soaked up every little bit of it.

While Toni does a remarkable job of creating heroes that you definitely drool over and then some, she also has this ability to carve out heroines that gets to you. Characterization is one of the most important aspects of writing any sort of novel, more so in a romance, and Toni has done a fabulous job out of creating Izzy, not to mention the great cast of secondary characters that gave the story the vitality it seemed to exude at the turn of each page. I definitely loved Izzy as much as I fell for Frazer. She is the sort of independent and intelligent soul who truly matches a person like Frazer in every single way and I loved her all the more for it!

Cold Justice is a novel that seeps with the charms and hazards of small town life. It is also one of the creepiest novels I’ve read by Toni Anderson. Creepy because I could practically feel the chills run up and down my spine, my heart jumped at the sound of every single creak and sway of the trees outside and I ‘blame’ Toni for all that because she practically transported me to the scenes of the story, each of them something I seemed to have absolutely lived through by the time I was done.

Toni keeps the reader guessing until towards the very end when everything just unravels at a pace where you can’t do anything else but hold your breathe and send out fervent prayers that those that matter from everyone involved would make it out alive and that they’d live to see another day. The kind of writing that gets deep into the psych of killers of the nature described in the book is nothing short of fascinating, and I loved every minute of the creepy utterly stalked vibes I got out of reading this jewel of a novel. The only thing I wished for? The fulfillment of the against the wall sex fantasy that I wished had materialized, especially when the man in question is Frazer, someone who prizes his control over everything else. Here’s hoping Killion’s story is up next!

I’m so glad I found Toni Anderson. She is just a fantastic writer.
Often in the romantic suspense genre the suspense takes second place to the romance or can be all out disappointing and predictable. It’s never the case with Toni Anderson as her quality of writing, her twists and skillfull manipulation of the mystery in the novel is always brilliant. No different here.
The only thing with this one is I felt the secret was overcome and glossed over too quickly and too close to the conclusion. I felt that impacted the romance and made me not fully buy into the relationship. Had it been given more time and if I, as a reader, felt more justified in it then perhaps this would have made my 5 star favourites shelf.

These whole books are very repetitive in some aspects. Some pages are full of things that the characters think about again and again and again. And like after one action happens, like the character A gets attacked by X, the same thoughts go through the character’s mind but in a little different way. This book could be like maybe 100 pages shorter than it really is and it is disappointing.

There is really no romance for half the book only them being attracted to each other and being like “awe I want to fuck him, BUT NO RELATIONSHIP, JUST SEX let’s not go that far as to think about the magic word “RELATIONSHIP” It is like reading about a bunch of 15yo, not FBI agents or 30yo+ females/males.

description

It might be just my frustration with this plot, trope, whatever you want to call it, but really it has become boring as fuck to read about that. So, the idea is that this book focuses a lot on the “let’s not have a relationship and have sex” thing. Which is fine people do that, it’s normal mostly in our time, basically, everyone wants to fuck but no responsibility or whatever, but after you read 100+books that base the start of their relationship on this particular thing, it gets repetitive and boring AF.

This has become such a trend in books and in real life I am actually disappointed when authors keep pushing this in their books OR EVEN SERIES! I wanted to read about at least 2 more characters in this word, and I actually started the book called Colder Than Sin, but I actually rolled my eyes 5 times in only 5% in the book (the idea “let’s not have a relationship and have sex” is again, of course, used in this book). The characters in that book didn’t even talk yet, but both went through the “let’s not have a relationship and have sex” monolog in their heads already. Like the characters don’t even know if the other person wants to have sex with them but they still went as far to think they would fuck them but not have a relationship with them, because, why not think about that? I mean that’s what I think every time I see a hot guy I want to fuck. It’s ok and NORMAL to have characters that don’t want a relationship, even more, if you have females/males that went through a divorce or whatever, but stop pushing this thing down our throats. Just focus on character X wanting to fuck character B and be done with it.

I think I read only like 4-5 until now in which they are not all like “awe let’s have sex but no feeling, boohoo”. And you know what, it is ok to have this start of a relationship for your characters, but when it is in all the books IN THE SAME SERIES, it is not even worth reading anymore since it is the same bullshit with different names and another crime that they have to solve. What is the reason to even read anymore if the author only uses this way of getting them together? It is really weird to read about the different characters that end up being together IN THE SAME WAY, in the same series. It’s like the author doesn’t even want to try to find another way to get those 2 in bed other than let’s fuck because we are hot and be done with it.

At this point, I wonder if there are romance books out there that don’t start with this thing anymore, and if so, where?!

Book 4 in the Cold Justice series by Toni Anderson. This has been one of my favorite psychological/romantic suspense series, but at a third of the way through this one, I still was not connecting with the M/m as easily I had in the previous books. This one just didn’t gripped me as quickly as the others. It’s not that it didn’t open with a horrific crime, it’s not as if the action didn’t start immediately. It just seemed to move more slowly once the investigation started.

Of course, maybe this all fits with Lincoln Frazer’s persona, he is after all, someone no one can get close to, someone who is closed off, and someone who keeps himself apart from everyone else. He suffered a horrific experience when he was fifteen-years-old that determined the course of his life. He’s never veered from the course he set for himself. He has no intention of letting this investigation interfere with that course, either. It doesn’t matter how intrigued he is by Isadora Campbell. It doesn’t matter that he sees himself in her eyes.

Isadora Campbell’s life forever changed that fateful night at the age of seventeen. She came home from work to find her father and mother arguing; before she could get to them things went horribly wrong. The day she left Rosetown she swore she’d never come back, at least not to stay. That was before her mother died and she became the guardian of her seventeen-year-old sister. Now she’s living in Rosetown again, and another horrific night unfolds, her past is quickly coming back to haunt her. She sees something in ASAC Frazer that she relates to, but it’s something she knows she can never act on.

I gave this one 3.5 stars, bumped up to 4 because this series is so great. This one was harder for me to connect with. That connection didn’t really happen until a little over a third of the way through. Once that happened, the story raced along. These characters are more difficult to connect with, but in retrospect, maybe Ms Anderson meant it to be that way. It certainly fits both Linc’s and Izzy’s personalities. I can say that I had it narrowed down to two suspects and then eventually one. It took me a while to eliminate one, but can I just say that I nailed it? Once this one takes off, it doesn’t let up and the evidence comes at you fast and furious. I stayed up until 3:30 this morning so that I could finish it. I tried to put it down at 2:15 AM, managed to doze off but kept waking up because I dreamt about the conclusion. I finally gave in and picked Cold Fear back up to finish.

This is such a great series! And the narration was fantastic!

I really have enjoyed all these books this is the 4th book in this series and I just pre-ordered book 5 which comes out in November. Can't wait.

This is one of the best romance suspense series ever! Okay, so I loved Frazer the hero, he is in charge of the BAU/FBI. He is strong, handsome, smart and doesn't want to fall in love at all! Well, he meets our herione, Izzy and he is done for, LOL. She is great too, smart, sassy and beautiful. These two made such a great couple. They had some great chemistry and there is a couple of really well written sex scenes, not erotica.

The story line and plot is great. A serial killer spree that has been going on for years. And I will say this serial killer is bad, very bad and very brutal. It was disturbing, but so very well written. I don't want to give spoilers, just know this was like watching an episode criminal minds, with a little romance thrown in.

If you haven't read this series I highly recommend it! Wonderful characters and stories. All of them. Not one of these books has been a disappointment.

Eric Dove did a fantastic job on the narration! He always does. The women sound like women, the hero sounds sexy and his reading voice is just great, he always reads with emotion as called for. Love him!

COLD FEAR is Book #4 in Anderson’s COLD JUSTICE series and another fantastic romantic suspense. This book centers around FBI agent Frazier and ER physiian Izzy Campbell. Frazier heads to the Outer Banks when the murder of two people are found to be related to an old case of a serial killer who is on death row. Izzy left home after high school and joined the Army, becoming a doctor. When her mother died of cancer Izzy resigned her commission to take care of her seventeen year old sister, Kit.

I really enjoyed both Frazier and Izzy's character and the slow build in their romance. Both have issues from the past and don't want to get involved. The suspense was great and there were plenty of suspects as to who the killer is. There are few twists and surprises and this book kept me reading from the very beginning until I reached a very satisfying conclusion.

I have enjoyed this entire series and highly recommend starting with the first book.

The setting is the Outer Banks of North Carolina, lots of sand dunes, plenty of places to hide the bodies! But who is behind the killings, didn't they have him locked up in prison awaiting his execution for this very same kind of killings?

Some carry over characters from the previous books in this series, plus some new ones - both likeable and detested. A couple of real good red herrings tossed in just to keep it suspenseful and interesting, plus a TSTL moment or two and of course a couple of steamy scenes just to switch your focus!

2 thumbs up and 4.5 stars!

I hated how this one opened up, hated that innocence was shattered the way it was. It seemed like this opening was the catalyst for all the secrets that came out. I had guess a bit of what Izzy was hiding and knew it would cause problems when it came out. Sure enough it did cause problems with the fledgling relationship that Izzy and Lincoln were developing. But when push came to shove and the "bad guy" came after Izzy Lincoln realized what was important.

On a side note, I loved the phone call during the final ride. It was the least that the guy deserved.

Super strong but realistically flawed characters that I was rooting for from the very beginning. Mystery and attraction, doubt and deceit, brains and brawn: Toni Anderson knows how to combine her ingredients to have you turning pages into the wee hours.
