I inherited the D40X; it was the first time I ever held a Nikon. This camera is 15 years old but works like a charm. I needed more info about it so I ordered this book via abebooks.com. It's well-written with loads of photos and diagrams to explain in plain English what all the bells and whistles do on this camera. I learned new stuff in just the first few pages. The rest will come with practice. The author, Ms. King, has written a lot of photography books. The instruction book that came with the camera was definitely NOT written for dummies!!!

This book is also a great reference for my camera. Everything is explained in an easy to follow manner. It is a "Dummies" book after all.
