Orlando Pirates legend Edward Motale is convinced that Jose Riveiro and his charges will be more “dangerous” next season and will be able to compete with Mamelodi Sundowns for the league title.'Magents', as Motale is affectionately known in the football industry, believes current Pirates players have what it takes to turn things around next season.

WHAT HAPPENED?

"The coach together with his technical team have built a strong team. If you look at the current PSL squads I think it's only Mamelodi Sundowns who comes closer to Pirates. They have good players who balance each other in all the departments,'' Motale told<a href="https://www.snl24.com/soccerladuma/local/premiership/orlando-pirates/edward-motale-backs-unstoppable-orlando-pirates-for-next-season-urges-continuity-20240413" target="_blank"> Soccer Laduma.</a>''If you look at the way they play from one game to another you can't really see whether there are changes or not and if they continue like that they will be dangerous next season. They will be the team to beat next season.''They are building a winning machine going forward and the players are starting to understand the coach and each other well. That's very good for the team if they are to be strong and unbeatable," he continued."You see most teams that perform season in season out don't change the whole squad. If there is no need to change then just keep the core of the team and just add two or three players who you really need to strengthen the team.''But otherwise, with the proven and trust that you have from the previous season, they will give you the results you need."Continuity is what we will need next season so that we can be consistent in our performance and results. But as I have said, next season Pirates will be more dangerous if you look at the way they are playing right now.''

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

The Buccaneers <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-za/lists/the-last-nine-orlando-pirates-coaches-who-failed-to-win-the-psl-title/gdm25nra8hcy1nyslp8hdhoy8" target="_blank">last won a league trophy in the 2011/12 season</a> under the tutelage of then interim coach, Augusto Palacios. Since then, they only managed to clinch a couple of domestic cup trophies.With only seven games to go, Bucs are currently in position three in the PSL table, trailing the log leaders Sundowns by 15 points, who have two games in hand.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

It remains to be seen if indeed the Spanish tactician will be capable of challenging for the league title and challenging the seemingly unstoppable Masandawana next season.For now, the Sea Robbers will be hoping to progress to the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup when they lock horns with AmaZulu on Saturday evening at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
