One Of Madonna’s Biggest Hits Is Surging–And There Are Several Reasons Why

Following

Madonna is still riding high off the success of her global The Celebration Tour, which will conclude next month. As she prepares to wind down from the road, one of the pop superstar’s biggest and most important singles is surging in popularity once more.

Usually when a decades-old cut returns to prominence in any way, it’s thanks to one special event, a milestone, or a unique pop culture moment. Madonna has both working in her favor this week.

“Like a Prayer” is currently bounding up the U.S. iTunes chart. At present, the tune reappears at No. 60 on the ranking of the bestselling individual songs in America. It just returned to the tally, and it seems like it will continue to climb in the coming hours and maybe even days.

Fans of Madonna–both casual and die-hard–may be returning to the tune after hearing it in a new movie trailer. “Like a Prayer” soundtracks the new teaser for the forthcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine. The action-packed flick is one of the most highly-anticipated of the year, and its trailer became a trending topic from the moment it arrived.

Being featured in a major movie trailer might be enough to push “Like a Prayer” up the iTunes chart–but it’s not the only thing going on with the tune. Superfans of Madonna may also be honoring the smash as it celebrates a special anniversary.

It was 35 years ago–almost to the day–that “Like a Prayer” reached No. 1 on the Hot 100. The same week, the album that shares a title with its massive single also landed atop the Billboard 200. Not many people may be aware of the importance of this week, but those who adore Madonna may very well be purchasing the cut–perhaps again–to celebrate its initial crowning.
