After a year of successfully selling these at various crafts events and markets, the "Nordic Higo" folder is now available here in Etsy. The inspiration for this folding knife came from Japanese Higonokami friction folders. These knives however were to my opinion quite small and not very suitable for northern forests. So I improved this friction folder type to a more rough and viking-like style, which is sturdy and can be used for various tasks. The Nordic Higo folder also easily fits small spaces like a pocket, making it one of the most handy all-rounder knives to carry with you.
Each blade of the knife is carefully hand forged from 80CrV2 high carbon steel, which is differentially heat treated so that only the polished edge area is hard, durable and has excellent cutting abilities. The spine of the blade is left softer, strong and ductile so it won't break in hardest of situations.
The knife handle where the blade folds is forged from 2 mm thick mild steel plate, with hammer marks to provide better grip and aesthetics. Blade and handle are riveted together with a 6 mm rivet, which does not break or go loose easily. The rivet is hammered so that it tightens the blade into the handle. Once the blade is unfolded it is not loose, won't wobble or change position by itself. Just a right amount of force is needed to fold and unfold the blade, making it safe to use. It won't open by itself when stored in pocket for example.
The dimensions of the knife are:
Blade length: 95 mm (approx. 3,7 inches)
Blade width: 25 mm (1 inch)
Blade thickness: 4 mm (approx. 0,15 inches)
Handle length (and total length when folded): 125 mm (approx. 5 inches)
Total length when unfolded: 220 mm (approx. 8,7 inches)
