Orange star (Ornithogalum dubium), also called sun star, is a perennial bulbous plant. The plant is attractive for its star-shaped dazzling orange flowers in large clusters. Its flowers open in a relay fashion – for each cluster, flowers open from the bottom up. For an individual plant, flower clusters may grow out sequentially – which makes the bloom last much longer than single flowers and can be up to six months. Orange star is an excellent source of cut flowers. After the plants die back, the bulbs can be left outside (in warm areas) or stored indoors and used for next season’s growth and beauty. The plant is cold hardy in USDA hardiness zones 7 to 10. For cooler areas, it may be grown indoors. Although it is rewarding, growing orange star plants is rather easy.

Care:
Well-draining soil. If regular potting soil is used, add ¼ of sand for better drainage.
Best to grow outdoor under full sun, but should be shaded during the hot hours in the summer.
Indoor - give plants as much direct sunlight as possible.
Evenly moist soil. Avoid water logging. No watering is needed when the plants are in dormancy.
Feed the plants annually with plant food such as a 10-10-10 by following the feeding instructions.
