I so wish Canon had put a 28-200 equivalent lens on this camera...F4-5.6 to keep it compact...it could have been a really useful general use camera on a compact scale.

There is definitely a hole in the market for such a camera with a 1" sensor or 4/3 sensor...I have been waiting years for a manufacturer to fill that gap...ho hum.

Why do they seem to think that people who use compact cameras fall into just 2 categories? Currently they only cater for people who want huge zoom ranges and small sensors, or people who want both larger sensors and larger apertures. Those bridge cameras available with 28-200 ish equivalent zoom lenses and larger sensors have also been endowed with wide aperture lenses...making them massive again...you may as well buy a DSLR.

Am I alone in my sector of the market in wanting such a camera? 😬

Congratulations to Canon for eventually producing a compact camera with a built in viewfinder! It's a really good looking little camera, perhaps a little evocative of a Nikon 1 V2. Apparently it has the same lens and allegedly the same image sensor as the G7X. So it will be interesting to see how it performs in the Ephotozine review. In the meantime, I can't help wondering if the designers at Canon are secretly working on a Mk3 version of the G1X also with a built in EVF.
