Keeping in mind that this camera was released in 2005 in a field that has seen incredible change and refinement it does well what it does. This is an ideal introduction to photography for a youngster. It has a full auto mode and a full manual mode for exposure. Autofocus is mandatory. Another good use case for this device is if you are going somewhere the environment might damage your camera. This will take decent shots and if it gets ruined you can always pick up another on eBay. Much better to replace this $15.00 - $60.00 device than your $200 - $1500 device. High points: » Takes SD card for memory, not some exotic memory scheme. » Takes AA batteries, not some high dollar disposable proprietary battery. » The camera is small and light but large enough to be easy to handle. » Viewfinder and display available. » 3.2 mp photos transfer very quickly to your computer. » Nice optical zoom range. » It takes good photos. Low points: » It is limited in what size SD card it can handle. Ideal size appears to be 512 MB, which is getting harder to find in this 32GB SD card world. » I have had examples where the lens cover failed to retract and had to be moved aside manually. »Memory is DCF formatted so you have to load your photos to the computer via a USB cable rather than simply inserting the SD card into the reader. » Fairly long time between shots, this is moreso true if using the flash which takes at least seven seconds to recharge after a shot. Overall this is fun camera to use. It is simple when you need it to be simple and flexible when the scene calls for some adjustment. It has a decent optical zoom range and would make almost any nascent photographer happy.Read full review
I just love this model of camera. It can be set to take simple pictures and it does a great job. Or, you can start using some of the many features and get even more out of the camera. Every function that I can imagine is contained somewhere in a menu or setting. The reason that I bought this camera at first is because, of the 6 or so cameras in our house, none of them will take a clear close up shot of a saxophone for Ebay. This camera did that right off with two setting changes. Then I started trying trick shots inside and out. The more I looked at the users guide, the simpler it all got. At first it looked like there were too many functions but,as you try them, they make sense. Somebody did their home work on this one. And, when you are done, the lense closes up and stores away. You can even buy special lenses and external flashes. It even works well with rechargable batteries. None of the other cameras will do that, they eat batteries. And not the cheap ones. I really like this model camera, so I bought a second one.Read full review
