Last of the Sony Alpha optical viewfinder models, the A580 is less advanced than newer mirrorless cameras, but for ease of framing and manual focus, the optical viewfinder is great. Also the battery life is much greater, allowing all-day shooting without having to turn the camera on and off constantly.

I bought this camera because I wanted something better than my A330 that was my first DSLR, and boy, did I get something better! I like pretty much everything about it, the 7pps feature is awesome when taking pictures of moving objects, or creatures. I have not found anything I don't like about it yet, except that it don't make me coffee in the morning! Hmm, how it compares to other cameras, tricky question because I have only used this camera. But a Canon user said "Impressive" to me when I took a panorama with 7pps.
I brought this camera as an upgrade from my Sony A100. I wanted to have HD Video recording capabilities. I like Sony products and the ability to use the interchangeable cords and memory cards that I can us with my point and shoot camera. What I like about the camera is the ability to switch between using the viewfinder and the screen to take pictures. There aren't too many things that I don't like about the camera - if there is anything - the shutter speed is somewhat slow. I think this camera is good value for the money.
With the holidays and such, I didn't expect to get my order so fast. I am really happy with it. Best camera I've owned in my career as an artist.
