The Sony DSC-T33 is a really sharp camera and has lots of features, but there are two things that it lacks that are available in newer Sony DSC-T models: First, it lacks image stabilization, so shots without flash and telephoto shots can be blurry if the camera is not resting on a solid, steady surface (it has no provision for a tripod built into the camera, but when in it's charging cradle with the tripod attachment for the cradle, a tripod can be used- what a hassle!); Second, it only has ISO settings up to ISO 400, and at that setting, the photos are noticable grainy. The newer model DSC-T series Sony cameras have ISO up to 3,200 ( great for non-flash/telephoto photos or for greatly extending the camera's limited flash range due to the tiny flash built in) which are still usable without great grain up to ISO 800. Now for the positives of this model.... the Carl Zeiss internal lens with 3X zoom (and the lens never protrudes from the recessed position inside the camera's small body) is excellent and sharp with well saturated, natural colors; the camera's battery life is pretty good and lasts about 90 minutes with a fully charged info lithium battery; the camera is tiny and easily fits into a shirt pocket; the camera is robustly constructed with al all metal body- mine survived a fall from 5 feet onto a hard floor that was not carpeted and still worked fine- I had to rebend the frame, though, because it got warped from the impact from the fall; the LCD screen is large( 2.5 inches) and easy to see even in bright sun because of the design. For $200 or less new or in like new shape, this is THE digital camera to get (until the newer models come down in price). The 5.1 megapixels is plenty for great prints up to 11 x 14.Read full review
By far the best thing this camera has going for it is the stealth factor. In less than 2 seeconds, you can take pictures with out having to remove the lens cover or have the protruding zoom lens announce to the world that you are snapping candid photos. The quality is also decent and the camera is extraordinarily easy to use. Build quality is above average for this class of camera. Constructed of metal and aluminum, this camera can take alot of abuse in the field. The LCD screen is nice and bright and the performance is very snappy. I carry this camera arouund with me all of the time for impromptu snapshots and I've been able to get shots I normally would miss with other digital point and shoot digicams. If you are looking for a camera that will keep you under the radar screen of your subjects, this is the one to get. It is also less expensive than the DSC-T7 or T9 but the picture quality is comparable. You can save money here by getting this model and given nothing up in the way of quality and performance.Read full review
My husband and I love this camera for it's easy to use guide and large screen. The slim style makes it a great take along for any trip. Not only can you take quality pictures the video option comes in handy. The ability to easy download pictures is a plus. The charge holds for at least four days if used regularly and not video mode which sometimes takes up more of the battery. We had purchased a year ago for a lot of money and when it was stolen, no other camera caught our eye.
I bought the last remaining T33 from Staples a few weeks ago at a great price - it was their display model. I read reviews stating the T series had one flaw - less than optimum sharpness - but I was willing to accept that in exchange for the low price ($200), simple one-hand control layout and compact size of this camera. After a few shots I downloaded pix to my laptop and saw they were indeed not great for much but 4x6 snapshots UNTIL I checked the resolution (it was set at 640 by 480). Dumb me. I reset the res to 5 mp and was astounded at the quality from such a tiny camera. It's now my favorite camera because I can carry it in my shirt pocket.
I think the DSC-T33 is an excellent camera for the money. I was looking for something that would be sleek and small but still take excellent pictures. I wanted many features to be able to navigate my way through different picture modes and lighting. With this camera, i was able to change the white-balance easily, ISO settings, and take sephia as well as B&W photos. I liked that I could fit it in my pocket and did not have to charge the battery very frequently. I really like this camera, especially if you are on the go like me.
