The DMC-FZ5 features the LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens - a small, lightweight lens that packs the same zoom power as a big, clunky 400 mm-class film camera lens. This 12x optical zoom lens is super-bright too, at F2.8 to 3.3 with a focal length of 6 to 72 mm (equivalent to 36 mm to 432 mm in a 35 mm film camera). You've got all the power and flexibility you need to take beautiful shots from telephoto to wide angle and macro. The FZ5 also has a 4x digital zoom. Use it together with the 12x optical zoom and you've got ultra-powerful 48x zooming - roughly equivalent to a huge 1680 mm lens on a 35 mm camera.

    Great, compact beginners camera. You can't go wrong!

    I purchased this camera used on eBay about two months ago. Since then, I've had the opportunity to challenge it in a variety of situations. It has come through with shining colors(?). First of all, I was amazed at the size. I never imagined you could have so many features in such a compact package, I can't begin to list them all, and it excels in every one of them. I suggest you go on an eBay sale site to check it out, as well as the other offerings from Panasonic & eBay. The 'full range' zoom capabilities are incredible, with 4x optical, 12x digital & 5MP. If you like simplicity, you'll love the 'heart' on the selector wheel. It's fully automatic, just point & shoot. I like the rechargeable battery option over double A's, as well as, the ease of access & rapid recharge. It's one sweet ...

    This is a great camera

    This is a great camera with high end, (expensive camera), features at a low end price. It has a good zoom lens, is upgrade-able to a 1Gb sim card (can you say 1,400 plus pictures before needed download or delete?), and although it has all the bells and whistles for a camera buff, it features an easy mode for those who won't read the manual. The software is easy to use and features editting that will have everyone thinking that you took photography classes. Oh yeah, it takes GREAT pictures!!!

    Great product

    Excellent camera. I had identical camera in black on which the led display failed. Unable to get replacement so bought this. Lica lens is unbeatable.
