About this product

Product Information

Every aspect of the Nikon D1X 5.3 MP Digital SLR Camera is designed with professional photographers in mind. The controls are placed for fast, easy access, so you can focus on the shot and not the camera. The high-definition 5.3 MP CCD sensor captures RAW, TIFF, or JPEG images with effective resolutions of 4024p by 1324p. With print outputs of 3008p by 1960p and 2000p by 1312p, you'll have vibrant photos fit for a two-page spread. The Nikon D1X shoots a series of nine consecutive JPEG or TIFF images at 3 fps. It can also buffer up to six NEF (RAW) format images at the same 3 fps. The viewfinder uses an optical type fixed eye-level pentaprism that displays 96% of the image the camera will capture. The Nikon provides up to five autofocus points with priority given to the closest point in dynamic AF mode. Autofocus mode can be locked on a single focus point, and focus tracking is also available. You can set the exposure manually or choose auto shutter priority, auto aperture priority, or flexible auto program. Shutter speeds range from 1/8000 of a second to 30 seconds. The electronically controlled self-timer can be set at two to 20 seconds. ISO equivalencies range from 125 to 800.You can automatically bracket exposure over two or three frames in EV steps ranging from 1/3 to a full step. You can also set compensations to ±5 EV at 1/3, 1/2, or a full step. Metering options include five-spot, variable center-weighted, or 3-D color matrix. You can set white balance manually or use the D1x's auto TTL or preset functions. You can fine-tune the white balance or use Tone Compensation to adjust the tonal curve under unusual lighting. With both Adobe RGB and sRGB, you have 14 levels of user-controlled color adjustment. The D1X allows you to choose each lens that you will use. With its Nikon F bayonet mount, the D1X accepts a wide assortment of Nikkor lenses. Nikon recommends D-type and G-type AF CPU Nikkors because all of the digital camera functions will be available. More detailed information about other types of lenses is available starting on page 198 of the user's manual. A flash accessory shoe is built onto the D1X body. Flash sync settings include front and rear curtain, slow sync, red-eye reduction, and red-eye reduction with slow sync. Sync speeds range up to 1/500 of a second. You can review your images on the LCD screen or on a TV in NTSC or PAL format. You can also use the IEEE-1394 FireWire interface to connect to a computer. Thumbnails display in four or nine segment grids. The LCD display can show both histograms and highlight point displays for the images. This camera has two memory card slots and supports Micro Media and CompactFlash Type I/II cards. It operates on either an EN-4 Ni-MH 7.2V DC battery pack or an EH-4 AC adapter. The adapter and the MH-17/16/15 12V DC Quick Charger are both available. Other options include a DK-12 attachment ring and B and E focusing screens. The D1X has a built-in one-quarter inch tripod socket. It measures 6.2 inches by 6.1 inches by 3.4 inches, and it weighs 40 ounces.

Item arrive in good shape and as describe. Be advised: This seller takes an inordinate amount of time to ship and claims to be "Understaffed" - Shipping status is inaccurate and "automated"(?). Communication, however, was timely.

    A nice camera for beginners.

For a price this low, this is the best you can get. You can of course spend $100 more and get something a bit newer such as Nikon D3000, but this package was complete. The camera itself is really old, 2001, but for only $125 it takes amazing pictures. Batteries are very old and die of very fast. I would recommend getting a new Battery for $20; it will save you a lot of headache. Also, this camera does not have an SD card slot, only CF Cards. If you are ordering a CF card, make sure you get 2GB or less. It cannot read/write on CF more that 2GB. Overall, a good and strong camera.

  • Nikon D1X.... Professional, RUGGED, HEAVY, and still okay in 2012!

I love the durability, I love the weight, I love the tank-like build quality! The photo quality is excellent, even when compared to cameras a generation ahead, like my D200. It has superior image quality to the D70, in my opinion, but the D70/D70s are a bit better in terms of handling and usage because of the better flash control (iTTL) and battery (NiMH vs LiIon). I do not like the Nickel Metal Hydride batteries Nikon chose to use in this camera... they're big, bulky, and only last about 300-600 shots on a charge in 50-70 degrees F. Hotter or colder temperatures will shorten the lifespan considerably. I recommend buying 3rd party batteries instead of Nikon ones because they're exactly the same and the 3rd party batteries are truly new, versus the Nikon ones which have likely sat on ...

  • Awesome find with late Serials. Great starter in Nikon Digital.

I bought my first Nikon D1 here on Ebay in late 2003. After a few years, internal issues had me looking for it's replacement. Of course the D2's were out and the D3 had just come along, but I had heavily invested in the D1 family and went looking a a D1x to replace my dying D1. Other than some control and setting differences, I readily adjusted to my D1x and kept right on going. I know this body uses the DX sensor but I learned to shoot using a N4004s film body and full frame(FX) film glass. I don't any DX lenses, only FX glass and only one with AFS Silent Wave Motor. The instant 1.5 Magnification due to the DX sensor makes shooting wide a challenge but helps on the long end when shooting telephoto. I have even used some Albinar and Vivitar lenses with this body from my dad's ...

  • The Nikon D1x is becoming a bargain

The Nikon D1x has much of the _essential_ functionality of more modern Nikon Digital SLRs but as these newer models seduce working photographers with more megapixels, faster response, slightly higher sensitivity, better firmware and bragging rights, the D1x price has dropped into the bargain range on eBay. Frankly, the 5 MP resolution of the D1x is adequate for most of the photography I do. I've also used a Nikon D2x and D3 and honestly, unless I'm very careful during picture taking, it's hard to see the difference in the printed or on-screen results. The camera I bought was definitely a "user," having been engraved all-over by the previous professional owner and having a resolvable problem with white balance, both issues honestly described in the listing by the seller. If you decide ...

  • Fun, Reliable Monster From the Past!

I picked up mine as a backup camera, but mostly out of sheer impulse. I like massive cameras and I like finding out how much one can get out of outdated technology, so I picked it up for super cheap on here and decided to find out. Full disclosure: I had already played around with a D1 I picked up in a thrift store (lol), but it was slightly broken so I sold it for parts. People can blabber on all they want about megapixels, full frame, etc. Yes those things are great... however, if you're looking for a camera that'll be a dependable backup, take a beating, not make terribly big prints, learn photography with, or just to play around, this camera is an excellent candidate. The feel of this camera is solid! It feels good in the hands, it turns on with a mighty "click" sound, the autofocus ...
