About the Sony DSC-U20
Super-small and very stylish, Sony's DSC-U20 may seem more like a must-have accessory than a camera at first! It's smaller than most cell phones (see "More Photos" for a shot of this cam in someone's hand!), and it comes in three different colors. Plus, Sony's provided a range of fun, funky cases for this cam (not included; see "Accessories") think silver, faux fur and camouflage, to name a few! But don't let the cool looks fool you. This little trendsetter packs real photo power into an absolutely tiny form factor.
The DSC-U20 offers 2-megapixel recording and a top resolution of 1632 x 1224. That means you can produce crisp pictures for Web posting and e-mailing, as well as snazzy 3" x 5" and 5" x 7" prints from a photo printer (and the camera is Exif 2.2-capable, for more accurate prints from a compatible printer). Start-up is quick, so you can go from Off to "Say cheese" in just a few seconds. Burst mode lets you snap up to five rapid-fire 640 x 480 photos at the press of a button great for capturing action-filled moments. Movie mode is a fun way to stay in touch record several seconds of silent, low-res video, then forward the clip to friends via e-mail. And with its small size and light weight (only 4.2 ounces!), this cam is as pocket-ready as they come!

Specifications
LCD Screen: The DSC-U20/LJ has a 1" color TFT LCD screen with 64,460 pixels. The LCD screen allows you to view an image before taking a picture and replay images that have been stored in memory. To conserve battery life, the LCD light can be turned off.
Recording Media: The camera records still images, or moving images without audio, on Memory Sticks. Still images are recorded in JPEG format and moving images are recorded in MPEG format.
Image Device: For optimal image quality, the camera uses a 1/2.7" 2-megapixel color CCD image sensor.
USB Terminal: Using the supplied USB cable and software, you can process and organize still images on your PC.
Auto Power-off Function: If you do not operate the camera for approximately 3 minutes, the camera will turn off automatically to prevent wearing down the battery. This function will not operate when a connector is plugged into the USB jack.
Image Quality: When recording still images, you can select a resolution of 1632 x 1224 or 640 x 480. When recording moving images, the resolution is fixed at 160 x 112.
Note: During movie recording, the maximum shooting time is 15 seconds per recording. Also, still images with a resolution of 1280 x 960 can be played back on this camera but not recorded.
Focusing: In addition to auto focus, you can pre-set the focal distance by choosing one of the following fixed focus settings: 0.2m, 0.5m, 1.0m, or infinity.
Flash Modes: You can choose from the following flash modes:
- Auto: the flash fires automatically as required by the light level
- Red-eye Reduction: flash mode is set to Auto, and the red-eye reduction operates if the flash strobes
- Forced Flash: the flash strobes regardless of the surrounding brightness
- No Flash: the flash does not strobe
Scene Modes: You can choose from the following scene modes:
- Soft Snap: lets you shoot skin colors in brighter and warmer tones for more beautiful pictures
- Illumination Snap: lets you capture beautiful images of both subjects and night scene backgrounds at the same time
- Vivid Nature: enhances blues and greens such as the sky, ocean and mountains, letting you shoot natural landscapes with vivid, striking colors
Photo Effect Modes: You can choose from the following photo effect modes:
-
Negative Art: the color and brightness of the picture are reversed as in a negative
-
Sepia: the picture is sepia-toned like an old photograph
-
B&W: the picture is monochrome
-
Solarize: the light contrast is clearer and the picture looks like an illustration
Burst Mode: In this mode, you can shoot up to five images in succession by holding down the shutter button. The recording interval is approximately 0.5 seconds. If you release the shutter button before all five images are shot, the camera stops shooting as soon as you release the button. The images are recorded in 640 x 480 resolution.
MPEG Movie Mode: MPEG Movie mode allows you to capture up to 15 seconds of MPEG1 compressed video at 160 x 112 resolution.
Self-timer: When you use the self-timer function, the camera will take a picture 10 seconds after you press the shutter button. The self-timer works in still mode and movie mode.
Viewing Still Images: You can view one image at a time, displayed over the entire screen, or, using the index screen, you can view 4 images simultaneously.
Exif Print (Exif 2.2): This camera conforms to "Exif Print", a worldwide standard. Vital camera settings (such as: exposure mode, white balance, exposure time) and scene data are recorded to the image file when it is captured. Printers compatible with "Exif Print" are able to use this information to produce high quality photographs, exactly the way they were intended at the time of capture. This intelligent communication process also allows the printer to correct for poor lighting or mistakes, resulting in photos that can be even better than the originals.
