About the Fujifilm FinePix S3000
Get your hands on the ergonomic, high-performance FinePix S3000, and you won't want to let go. That's because this camera is as comfortable to hold as it is easy to use! Plus, for close shots of distant subjects, the S3000 has a powerful 6X optical zoom. You can zero in on distant scenes or subjects, or capture stellar candids from across the room. Nice!
To ensure sharp, accurate pics, you get a Fujinon lens and a 3-megapixel CCD. Photos are outstandingly vivid! Movie mode lets you record small clips to e-mail to family and friends, or post online. The S3000 also comes loaded with automatic shooting technologies (for when you want the camera to do the work) and manual controls (for when you feel like getting creative). You can use the shooting modes to adjust the camera for great photos of tough subjects, like nighttime shots, or action snaps. Or you can do the adjustment yourself with aperture priority mode and exposure compensation. The included lens adapter ring lets you add optional telephoto or wide-angle converter lenses, for even more shooting flexibility. Overall, it's a camera you can really grow into!

Shooting Modes: Using the top-mounted rotary mode dial, you can set the camera to suit your level and style of photography. The shooting mode choices include:
- Auto Mode: The Auto Mode is a simple point-and-shoot mode in which the majority of camera settings are controlled by the camera. This mode is recommended for first-time users of digital cameras.
- Scene Position (SP) Mode: The camera gives
you the option of 4 Scene Modes, plus a continuous shooting mode. The camera settings are automatically
adjusted to suit the selected scene. The Scene Position Modes include:
- Portrait: For shooting portraits--skin tones are shown beautifully and the overall tone is soft. All flash modes are available.
- Scene: For shooting scenery in daylight--provides crisp, clear shots of scenery such as buildings and mountains. No flash is available in this mode.
- Sport: For shooting sporting events--gives priority to faster shutter speeds. Auto Flash or Forced Flash are available in this mode.
- Night: For evening and night scenes--allows you to take shots where priority is given to slow shutter speeds of up to 3 seconds. Available flash modes include Slow-Synchro and Red-eye Reduction + Slow-Synchro. To prevent camera shake, a tripod is recommended.
- Continuous: For shooting two continuous shots. The focusing exposure and white balance are set with the first frame. The flash is suppressed.
- Manual Mode: The Manual Mode lets you specify a range of different menu settings, such as brightness (exposure compensation), white balance, aperture priority, sharpness, and flash brightness adjustment.
- Movie Mode: Make movies at a rate of 10 frames per second without sound. The images are recorded at 320 x 240 pixels or 160 x 120 pixels. The recording time is limited to the amount of available memory in the xD-Picture card. There is no maximum clip length.
Sharpness: When in the Manual Shooting mode, you can use the sharpness setting to soften or emphasize outlines or to adjust the image quality. Three levels of sharpness are available: Hard, Normal, and Soft.
Aperture-Priority Auto: In the Manual Shooting mode, you can select the Aperture-Priority mode. This is an automatic mode that allows you to set the aperture (F2.8, F4.8 or F8.2), and the camera automatically sets the shutter speed between 1/2 second and1/1500 second. When using a wide aperture (F2.8), backgrounds are blurred. With a narrow aperture setting (F8.2), foreground and background are in sharp focus.
White Balance: White balance is used to preserve natural colors under different types of lighting. The White Balance can be set when in the Manual shooting mode only. You can select Auto, Outdoors, Shade, "Daylight" fluorescent lamps, "Warm White" fluorescent lamps, "Cool White" fluorescent lamps, and Incandescent light.
Exposure Compensation: You can alter the exposure from the value suggested by the camera, making pictures brighter or darker. You can adjust the exposure a total of 13 steps from -2.1 to +1.5 EV in 1/3 EV steps. Exposure compensation is available only in the Manual shooting mode.
ISO Sensitivity: The ISO Sensitivity is set automatically by the camera. When the flash is off, the ISO sensitivity is equivalent to ISO 100. With the flash turned on, the sensitivity is equivalent to ISO 100-200.
Macro: For close-up photography, the FinePix S3000 offers a Macro mode. The Macro mode allows you to focus on subjects between 3.9 inches and 2.6 feet. The effective flash range in the Macro mode is 1 to 2.6 feet.
Flash Modes: The FinePix S3000 has a built-in pop-up flash with a range of 1' to 19.7' (Wide) and 2.6' to 18.0' (Tele). You can choose from the following flash modes:
-
Auto: flash fires automatically as required by the shooting conditions
-
Red-eye reduction: flash fires a pre-flash just before the picture is taken and fires again to take the actual picture.
-
Forced Flash: flash will fire whenever a picture is taken
-
Red-eye reduction + Slow Synchro: pre-flash for reducing red-eye effect, plus auto flash with slow shutter speeds
-
Slow Synchro: auto flash combined with slow shutter speeds (tripod recommended) for taking pictures at night when you want to show a nighttime backdrop.
-
Suppressed Flash: You can press down the flash, turning it off so it will not fire, even when lighting is poor. Auto White balance operates so natural colors are captured.
Flash Brightness Adjustment: The intensity of the flash can be adjusted to suit the photography conditions or to achieve a desired effect. You can adjust the flash in 5 steps from -0.6 EV to +0.6 EV in 0.3 EV increments.
Viewing Images: Images can be played back one-at-a-time, in fast forward, or multi-frame (9 "thumbnail" images).
Playback Zoom: You can enlarge a still image according to the image quality (size). Images shot in 3M (2048 x 1536) images can be enlarged a maximum of 13x, 2M (1600 x 1200) enlarged to 10x, 1M (1280 x 960) enlarged to 8x and 0.3M (640 x 480) enlarged to 4x. This function is useful for checking the focus of shots you have taken.
Playback Menu: In the camera's playback menu, you can choose to erase images or protect images from accidental erasure. If you wish to erase unwanted images, you can choose to erase them one at a time or erase all unprotected images. To prevent images from being accidentally erased, you can choose to protect a single image, protect all images, or reset all images to remove protection from all of the files.
Printing Pictures: Using DPOF (Digital Print Order Form), you can designate which images to print, and whether to print them with or without date. Pictures can be printed as followed:
- Printer or Photo Lab: insert the memory card into a compatible printer, or take the memory card to a digital photo lab.
- Transferring to Computer: transfer the images to a computer before printing them
Power Requirements: The FinePix S3000 is equipped with 4 "AA" alkaline batteries. The supplied batteries provide power for recording approximately 350 frames to an xD-Picture Card with the LCD monitor on and approximately 400 shots with the LCD monitor off. Optional Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries are available from the manufacturer. Note: Rechargeable nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) and manganese batteries are not recommended because heat generated from the batteries could damage the camera or cause malfunctions.
AC Adapter: The optional AC-5VH or AC-5VHS AC adapter allows you to operate the camera on household current.
Power Save Function: When the camera is operated on battery power, the Power Save function will cause the camera to enter a "sleep" mode if it is not used for approximately 30 seconds. While in the sleep mode, the camera can be quickly brought back to full operational power by pressing the shutter button halfway. Once in the sleep mode, if the camera is left unused for a further 90 seconds, the camera is automatically turned off. With the Power Save function turned off, the camera does not have a "sleep" mode to reduce power consumption. The camera will automatically turn off if not used for approximately 2 minutes.
