    FinePix A340 Features

LCD Monitor: The FinePix A340 has a 1.5" amorphous silicon TFT LCD monitor featuring approximately 60,000 pixels and a 10-level brightness adjustment. The monitor provides approximately 90% coverage in the shooting mode.

Viewfinder: In addition to the LCD monitor, the camera has a real-image optical viewfinder with approximately 80% coverage in the shooting mode. You can easily switch between the LCD monitor and viewfinder.

Optics: The FinePix A340 is equipped with a Fujinon lens with a 3x optical zoom.

Zoom: The digital zoom varies with the image quality (image size) settings. When recording a 2M image (1600 x 1200) gives you a 1.4x digital and 4.2x total zoom. If recording a 1M image (1280 x 960), the maximum digital zoom is 1.7x and the total zoom is 5.1x. The digital zoom is not available when recording a 4M image (2272 x 1704).

CCD Imager: The 1/2.7" square-pixel CCD imager with an RGB filter found in the FinePix A340 features 4.23-million total pixels and 4.0-million effective pixels.

Image Quality: The FinePix A340 records still images in JPEG format and movies in AVI format (Motion JPEG) without audio. You have a choice of 3 still image size options and 2 movie size options:

Shooting Modes: Using the menu, you can set the camera to suit your level and style of photography. The shooting mode choices include:

    • Auto Mode: The Auto Mode is a simple point-and-shoot mode in which the exposure value and white balance are controlled by the camera. Auto Flash, Red-eye Reduction Flash, Forced Flash, and Suppressed Flash modes are available. This mode is recommended for first-time users of digital cameras.
    • Manual Mode: The Manual Mode lets you specify the exposure value and white balance. All flash modes are available.
    • Portrait: For shooting portraits--skin tones are shown beautifully and the overall tone is soft. All flash modes are available.
    • Scene: For shooting scenery in daylight--provides crisp, clear shots of scenery such as buildings and mountains. No flash is available in this mode.
    • Sport: For shooting sporting events--gives priority to faster shutter speeds. Auto Flash, Suppressed Flash, or Forced Flash are available in this mode.
    • Night: For evening and night scenes--allows you to take shots where priority is given to slow shutter speeds of up to 2 seconds. Available flash modes include Suppressed Flash, Slow-Synchro and Red-eye Reduction + Slow-Synchro. To prevent camera shake, a tripod is recommended.
    • Movie Mode: You can make movies at a rate of 10 frames per second without sound. The images are recorded at 320 x 240 pixels or 160 x 120 pixels. The maximum recording time is 60 seconds at 320 x 240, and 240 seconds at 160 x 120. During movie recording, the lens is fixed at the wide-angle zoom setting, and the digital zoom can be used up to 3.4x. Focal range is 3.3 feet to infinity.

White Balance: White balance is used to preserve natural colors under different types of lighting. The White Balance can be set when in the Manual shooting mode only. You can select Auto, Outdoors, Shade, "Daylight" fluorescent lamps, "Warm White" fluorescent lamps, "Cool White" fluorescent lamps, and Incandescent light.

Exposure Compensation: You can alter the exposure from the value suggested by the camera, making pictures brighter or darker. You can adjust the exposure a total of 13 steps from -2.1 to +1.5 EV in 1/3 EV steps. Exposure compensation is available only in the Manual shooting mode.

ISO Sensitivity: The ISO Sensitivity is set automatically by the camera. When the flash is off, the ISO sensitivity is equivalent to ISO 100.

Macro: For close-up photography, the FinePix A340 offers a Macro mode. The Macro mode allows you to focus on subjects between 3.9 inches and 2.6 feet. The effective flash range in the Macro mode is 1 to 2.6 feet.

Flash Modes: The FinePix A340 has a built-in pop-up flash with a range of 1' to 19.7' (Wide) and 2.6' to 18.0' (Tele). You can choose from the following flash modes:

    • Auto: flash fires automatically as required by the shooting conditions

    • Red-eye reduction: flash fires a pre-flash just before the picture is taken and fires again to take the actual picture.

    • Forced Flash: flash will fire whenever a picture is taken

    • Red-eye reduction + Slow Synchro: pre-flash for reducing red-eye effect, plus auto flash with slow shutter speeds

    • Slow Synchro: auto flash combined with slow shutter speeds (tripod recommended) for taking pictures at night when you want to show a nighttime backdrop.

    • Suppressed Flash: You can turn off the flash so it will not fire, even when lighting is poor. Auto White balance operates so natural colors are captured.

Viewing Images: Images can be manually played back one-at-a-time, or multi-frame (9 "thumbnail" images). With Auto Play, the images are played one-by-one at a selectable interval with different types of image transitions to choose from.

Playback Zoom: You can enlarge a still image according to the image quality (size). Images shot in 4M (2272 x 1704) images can be enlarged a maximum of 14x, 2M (1600 x 1200) enlarged to 10x, and 1M (1280 x 960) enlarged to 8x. This function is useful for checking the focus of shots you have taken.

Trimming: You can save a cropped image as a new file. After selecting an image, you can zoom in or out and pan left or right to frame the new image. The new file can be saved as a 2M or 1M image.

Erase/Protect: In the camera's playback menu, you can choose to erase images or protect images from accidental erasure. If you wish to erase unwanted images, you can choose to erase them one at a time or erase all unprotected images. To prevent images from being accidentally erased, you can choose to protect a single image, protect all images, or reset all images to remove protection from all of the files.

PictureCradle: Using the supplied adapter, you can dock the camera to the CP-FXA10 PictureCradle. The cradle has connections for USB, AC power and Video. Once docked to the PictureCradle, you can download images to your computer, charge the batteries (if using rechargeable batteries), or playback images on a connected TV. Note: The PictureCradle comes with a rechargeable Ni-MH battery pack and an AC-3V AC power adapter.

PictBridge Compatible: The FinePix A340 allows you to print directly to a PictBridge-compatible printer of any brand via USB cable. You do not have to download pictures to a computer before printing.

Printing Pictures: Using DPOF (Digital Print Order Form), you can designate which images to print, and whether to print them with or without date. Pictures can be printed as followed:

    • Printer or Photo Lab: insert the memory card into a compatible printer, or take the memory card to a digital photo lab.
    • Direct Print: connect a PictBridge-compatible printer via USB cable and print images directly.
    • Transferring to Computer: transfer the images to a computer before printing them

Power Requirements: The FinePix A340 is equipped with 2 "AA" alkaline batteries. The supplied batteries provide power for recording approximately 140 frames to an xD-Picture Card with the LCD monitor on and approximately 220 shots with the LCD monitor off. Optional Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries are available from the manufacturer. Note: Rechargeable nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) and manganese batteries are not recommended because heat generated from the batteries could damage the camera or cause malfunctions.

AC Adapter: The AC-3V AC power adapter, supplied with the Picture Cradle, allows you to operate the camera on household current.

Power Save Function: When the camera is operated on battery power, the Power Save function will cause the camera to enter a "sleep" mode if it is not used for approximately 30 seconds. While in the sleep mode, the camera can be quickly brought back to full operational power by pressing the shutter button halfway. Once in the sleep mode, if the camera is left unused for a further 2 minutes or 5 minutes (as set in the menu), the camera is automatically turned off.
