LCD Monitor: The Fujifilm FinePix S7000 has a 1.8" CG silicon TFT LCD monitor featuring approximately 118,000 pixels and a 10-level brightness adjustment. The LCD monitor has nearly 100% horizontal and vertical coverage in the shooting mode.

Viewfinder: In addition to the LCD monitor, the camera has a 0.44" electronic LCD viewfinder with 235,000 pixels and approximately 100% horizontal and vertical coverage. This high-resolution viewfinder ensures a bright, clear preview image. A diopter control lets you adjust the electronic viewfinder to your own eyesight.

Optics: The FinePix S7000 is equipped with a Super EBC Fujinon lens with 6x optical zoom. Optional conversion lenses ( 0.79x wide and 1.5x tele) and adapter rings are available from the manufacturer. An adapter ring is required for using commercially available filters.

Zoom: The digital zoom varies with the image quality (image size) settings. When recording a 6M image (2848 x 2136), the digital zoom is 1.4x and the total zoom is 8.4x. Recording a 3M image (2016 x 1512) gives you a 2x digital and 12x total zoom. If recording a 2M image (1600 x 1200), the maximum digital zoom is 2.53x and the total zoom is 15.18x. The digital zoom is 3.2x when recording a 1M image (1280 x 960), providing you with a total zoom of 19.2x. The digital zoom is not available when recording a 12M image (4048 x 3040).

4th Generation Super CCD HR: Fujifilm's 4th Generation Super CCD HR technology represents a miniaturization of their Super CCD technology, preserving its performance values while further increasing pixel count. The 1/1.7" Super CCD HR imager found in the FinePix S7000 features 6.63-million total pixels, 6.3-million effective pixels, and an incredible 12.3-million recording pixels. Despite the smaller size of each photodiode, enhancements in their physical design as well as new signal-processing technology have improved both sensitivity and signal-to-noise ration over Fujifilm's previous 3rd-generation Super CCD.

Dual Recording Media: Images can be recorded onto xD-Picture cards or Microdrive (a Type II Compact Flash card). If both media slots are filled, images will be recorded to the memory card selected in the Setup menu. A 16MB xD-Picture card is supplied. Note: You cannot transfer images from one medium to another.

Image Quality: The FinePix S7000 records still images in JPEG format and CCD-RAW, and movies in AVI format (Motion JPEG) with monaural WAV audio. You have a choice of 5 still image size options and 2 movie size options:

CCD-RAW: Setting the camera to CCD-RAW disables the signal processing functions of the camera (reconstituting the data received from the CCD as an image). Because of this, the images shot in CCD-RAW must be rebuilt on a computer, with the supplied FinePix Viewer software installed.

Shooting Modes: Using the top-mounted rotary mode dial, you can set the camera to suit your level and style of photography. The shooting mode choices include:

• Auto Mode: The Auto Mode is a simple point-and-shoot mode in which the majority of camera settings are controlled by the camera. This mode is recommended for first-time users of digital cameras. While in the Auto Mode, the following settings can be adjusted: Image Quality (number of recorded pixels), ISO Sensitivity, and FinePix color.
• Scene Position (SP) Mode: The camera gives you the option of 4 Scene Modes. The camera settings are automatically adjusted to suit the selected scene. The Scene Position Modes include:
  • Portrait: For shooting portraits--skin tones are shown beautifully and the overall tone is soft.
  • Landscape: For shooting scenery in daylight--provides crisp, clear shots of scenery such as buildings and mountains.
  • Sports: For shooting sporting events--gives priority to faster shutter speeds.
  • Night Scene: For evening and night scenes--allows you to take shots where priority is given to slow shutter speeds of up to 3 seconds. To prevent camera shake, a tripod is recommended.
• Programmed Auto Mode: The Programmed Auto Mode is an automatic mode that allows you to specify any of the settings other than the shutter speed and aperture. This allows you to take shots relatively simply in the same way as the Shutter-priority Auto and Aperture-priority Auto modes. While in the Programmed Auto mode, you can activate the Program Shift feature which lets you change the combination of shutter speed and aperture without changing the exposure setting.
• Shutter-priority Auto: This is an automatic mode that allows you to set the shutter speed and the camera automatically sets the aperture for the proper exposure. You can use this mode for shot where you want to freeze a moving subject (fast shutter speed) or convey the impression of movement (slow shutter speed). You can set the shutter speed between 3 seconds and 1/1000 second in 1/3 EV steps.
• Aperture-priority Auto: This is an automatic mode that allows you to set the aperture and the camera automatically sets the shutter speed for the proper exposure. You can use this mode for shots where you want to have the background out of focus (large aperture) or have both near and far objects in focus (small aperture). You can set the aperture from F2.8 to F8 in 1/3 EV steps (wide angle).
• Manual Mode: The Manual Mode allows you set any shutter speed and aperture setting. You can set the shutter speed between 15 seconds and 1/10000 second in 1/3 EV steps and you can set the aperture from F2.8 to F8 in 1/3 EV steps (wide angle).
• Movie Mode: Make movies at a rate of 30 frames per second with sound. You can select "640" (640 x 480) or "320" (320 x 240). The recording time is limited to the amount of available memory in the xD-Picture card or Microdrive. There is no maximum clip length.

ISO Sensitivity: When in the Auto Shooting Mode, you can set the camera's ISO sensitivity to Auto, 400 or 800. When in the Scene Position, Programmed Auto, Shutter-priority, Aperture-priority, or Manual shooting modes, you can set the camera's ISO sensitivity to 200, 400, or 800. The Auto ISO setting is equivalent to 160 to 800 (with LCD on and flash off). You can use any sensitivity with any of the Still Image Quality (image size) settings, with the exception of ISO 800. When the "high-sensitivity" setting (ISO 800) is selected, you can use only the 3M, 2M or 1M image quality settings.

FinePix Color: The FinePix Color settings allows you to control the color saturation of the recorded image. The camera gives you the following choices:

• Standard: The contrast and color saturation are set to standard. For portraits and everyday use.
• Chrome: The contrast and color saturation are set to high. For taking more vivid shots of subjects such as scenery (blue sky, greenery) and flowers.
• Black & White: The colors are set to monochrome. For dramatic and artistic images.

White Balance: White balance is used to preserve natural colors under different types of lighting. The White Balance can be changed when the shooting mode is in the Programmed Auto, Shutter-priority, Aperture-priority, or Manual settings. You can select Auto, Outdoors, Shade, "Daylight" fluorescent lamps, "Warm White" fluorescent lamps, "Cool White" fluorescent lamps, Incandescent light, Custom Type 1, and Custom Type 2 (set by the camera for the specific lighting for the shot).

Exposure Compensation: You can alter the exposure from the value suggested by the camera, making pictures brighter or darker. You can adjust the exposure a total of 13 steps from -2.0 to +2.0 EV in 1/3 EV steps. Exposure compensation is available in the Programmed Auto, Shutter-priority, and Aperture-priority shooting modes only.

AE Lock: You can use the AE (Auto Exposure) Lock when you want to take pictures with the exposure (but not the focus) fixed on a particular subject. A separate AE-Lock button lets you set the exposure before recomposing your shot. Note: Pressing the shutter button down halfway locks both the Auto Exposure and the Auto Focus.

Continuous Shooting: You can choose one of four continuous shooting modes:

• Top 5-frame: You can shoot up to 5 frames at 3.3 frames per second. The photographed images are displayed in sequence and automatically recorded.
• Auto-Bracketing: This mode automatically shoots 3 continuous frames that bracket the selected exposure setting so that one is correctly exposed, one is overexposed and one is underexposed.
• Final 5-frame: This mode allows you to release the shutter up to 40 times at 3.3 frames per second, and record the last 5 frames.
• Long-period: You can take up to 40 continuous shots at intervals as short as 1 second. If the image quality before switching to this mode is 12M or 6M, the quality mode is automatically set to 3M (2016 x 1512 pixels), the switched back the original quality mode when continuous shooting is canceled. If you switch quality settings during continuous shooting to 3M, 2M or 1M, the quality setting remains unchanged after continuous shooting is canceled.

Self-timer: The camera gives you the choice of a 10-second or 2-second self timer.

Multiple Exposures: You can overlay photographed images on top of each other to create multiple exposures that cannot be obtained through normal photography. There is no limit to the number of multiple exposures you can shoot.

Auto Focus Methods: The FinePix S7000 offers three auto focus methods:

• Area: You can change the position on the screen where the camera focuses. Using the 4-way selector, you can move the AF brackets "[  +  ]" that appear in the LCD monitor and viewfinder to the portion of the image where you want to focus.

• Center: The camera focuses on the center of the screen. Center focus is useful for shots using AF/AE lock.

• Multi: The camera automatically recognizes any strongly contrasting subject near the center of the screen and displays the AF frame over the subject in focus.

Focus Modes: The FinePix S7000 features a Focus mode selector on the left side of the lens which allows you to select one of three types of focus:

• Standard AF (auto-focus): Automatic focus takes place when the shutter button is pressed halfway.

• Continuous AF: Automatic focus is constant; helpful when shooting pictures of a moving subject.

• Manual Focus: You can manually focus on a subject by turning the FZ (focus/zoom) ring. To assist you, you can press the One-touch AF for a quick focus, or use the Focus Check function which enlarges the center of the image.

Macro/Super Macro: For close-up photography, the FinePix S7000 offers Macro and Super Macro modes. The Macro mode allows you to focus on subjects between 3.9 inches and 2.6 feet. The effective flash range in the Macro mode is 1 to 2.6 feet. You can use the zoom feature in the Macro mode up to 2.3x. In the Super Macro mode, you can focus on subjects between 0.4 (1 centimeter) and 7.9 inches. Flash and zoom cannot be used.

External Flash: The camera has a hot shoe that allows you to use an external flash. You must first select "External Flash On" in the menu before using an optional flash unit. Synchronized shutter speeds up to 1/1000 second can be used.

Flash Modes: The FinePix S7000 has a built-in pop-up flash with a range of 1' to 27.9' (Wide) and 3' to 25.9' (Tele). You can choose from the following flash modes:

• Auto: flash fires automatically as required by the shooting conditions

• Red-eye reduction: flash fires a pre-flash just before the picture is taken and fires again to take the actual picture.

• Forced Flash: flash will fire whenever a picture is taken

• Suppressed Flash: flash will not fire, even when lighting is poor (Auto White balance operates so natural colors are captured)

• Red-eye reduction + Slow Synchro: pre-flash for reducing red-eye effect, plus auto flash with slow shutter speeds

• Slow Synchro: auto flash combined with slow shutter speeds (tripod recommended) for taking pictures at night when you want to show a nighttime backdrop.

Flash Brightness Adjustment: The intensity of the flash can be adjusted to suit the photography conditions or to achieve a desired effect. You can adjust the flash in 5 steps from -0.6 EV to +0.6 EV in 0.3 EV increments.

Photometry: In the Auto, Scene Position and Movie modes, light metering is set to "Multi". In the Programmed Auto, Shutter-priority, Aperture-priority and manual modes, you can select one of three Photometry modes for shots where the brightness of the subject and background differ greatly and the light is not metered as desired:

• Multi (Pattern): light metering where the camera automatically assesses the scene and selects the optimum exposure.
• Spot: light metering where the exposure is optimized for the center of the image
• Average: light metering where an average value for the entire image is used

Voice Memos: You can add voice memos of up to 30 seconds each to still images. The voice memos are recorded in the WAV format. During playback, you can pause/resume, stop, fast-forward and rewind the voice memos.

Viewing Images: Images can be played back one-at-a-time, in fast forward, or multi-frame (9 "thumbnail" images).

Playback Zoom/Trimming: You can enlarge a still image according to the image quality (size). Images shot in 12M (4048 x 3040) can be enlarged up to 25x, 6M (2848 x 2136) images can be enlarged a maximum of 18x, 3M (2016 x 1512) enlarged to 13x, 2M (1600 x 1200) enlarged to 10x and 1M (1280 x 960) enlarged to 8x. While zoomed in on an image, you can pan to the left, right, up or down. Trimming the image allows you to save a cropped image as a new image.

Playback Menu: The playback menu contains the following options:

• Erase: Erases all or only selected frames
• Protect: Protect selected pictures from accidental deletion
• AutoPlay: Displays the images in a slide-show. You can select two image transitions and two playback intervals.
• Voice Memo: Allows you to record a voice memo of up to 30 seconds

Printing Pictures: Using DPOF (Digital Print Order Form), you can designate which images to print, and whether to print them with or without date. Pictures can be printed as followed:

• Printer or Photo Lab: insert the memory card into a compatible printer, or take the memory card to a digital photo lab.
• PictBridge-compatible Printer: connect the camera to a PictBridge-compatible printer via USB cable
• Transferring to Computer: transfer the images to a computer before printing them

Power Requirements: The FinePix S7000 is equipped with 4 "AA" alkaline batteries. The supplied batteries provide power for recording approximately 210 frames to an xD-Picture Card with the LCD monitor on and approximately 220 shots with the LCD monitor off. (Recording to a Microdrive reduces the number of frames by 10 compared to xD-Picture Card). Optional Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries are available from the manufacturer. Note: Rechargeable nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) and manganese batteries are not recommended because heat generated from the batteries could damage the camera or cause malfunctions.

AC Adapter: The optional AC-5VH or AC-5VHS AC adapter allows you to operate the camera on household current.

Power Save Function: When the camera is operated on battery power, the Power Save function will automatically turn off the LCD monitor to reduce the drain on the batteries if no operations are performed for 30 seconds. If the camera is left unused for a longer period (2 or 5 minutes, as set in the menu), the camera is automatically switched off.

Inputs and Outputs Notes

USB 2.0: The FinePix S7000's USB connector that supports USB 2.0 high-speed data transfer, allowing you to download pictures to a compatible computer much faster than traditional USB 1.1 versions.

A-V Output: The camera features a female micro-jack for directly connecting to a TV via the supplied A/V cable. Note: The video output is NTSC or PAL compatible.

Cable Release Socket: The camera's shutter release button features a threaded socket to accommodate a mechanical cable release. Camera shake can be prevented by using a tripod and cable release during long exposures.

Supplied Software

System Requirements: The FinePix S7000 is equipped with Software for FinePix SX Version 4.1d for Windows and Macintosh. In order to use this software, your computer must have the following minimum requirements:

Included Applications: The supplied software includes the following applications:

• FinePix Viewer: This application allows you to display thumbnail lists of the images stored on your PC or in the camera, print the images individually or as an index, display the images at full size and perform some basic image processing. Applications for Windows and Macintosh included.
• USB Mass Storage Driver: This application allows a digital camera to be used as a USB Mass Storage (removable disk drive, card reader)
• USB PC Camera Driver: This application allows a digital camera to be used as a PC Camera.
• RAW FILE CONVERTER LE: This application converts CCD-RAW files to Exif-TIFF format
• ImageMixer VCD2 for FinePix: This application creates a FinePix CD Album.
