Pop stardom wasn't exactly the plan for British singer-songwriter Anne-Marie, but now she has collaborations with some of today’s biggest musical artists (as in, Ed Sheeran, Elton John and David Guetta, to name a few) under her belt. After the thrill of performing on stage in the West End's production of Les Misérables at age 6, Anne-Marie remembers she was hooked: “I knew that that’s the feeling that I wanted to feel for the rest of my life.”

Her path to the top, however, definitely wasn't easy. She had no connections in the music industry and absolutely no clue how she could break in. “I had to learn everything from that first day,” she recalls.

Nowadays, Anne-Marie has found the confidence to make music that's 100% true to herself. “I go into the studio, and I can let loose on anything and not be worried about the reaction,” she says. “Just because that’s where the best music comes from, and you touch the most people.”

And a few UK chart-topping singles later, she can appreciate that her struggles were part of her process to become an artist. “Every experience has made me who I am today,” Anne-Marie admits. “So the struggles are the growth.”

Anne-Marie’s debut album, Speak Your Mind, is out now.
