>> Hi. I'm Josh Goldman, senior editor of Receipt and Reviews, and these are Canon's PowerShot 8490 and 8495. The cameras basic specs are the same. They have ten megabits of resolution, 3.3x Optical Zooms, and 2.5 inch LCD's. They're both powered by two AA batteries. What makes the 8495 a little more expensive is slightly better face detection, a few extra scene modes, including two new art filters, super vivid and poster effect, and a smarter auto load. The 8495 also comes in three colors--blue, red, and silver, while the 8490 is in silver only. The cameras are otherwise the same, very simple point-and-shoots with straightforward controls and a minimum of shooting options. There's a program mode if you want to pick things like ISO and light balance, but the auto mode is very reliable. You get some standard scene modes including the low light option for two mega pixel photos, it's sensitivities from ISO 500 to 3200. There's also a movie mode, but it's BGA only, and there's no use of the optical zoom, not that there's much zoom to use anyway. Both models have slow shooting performance, particularly shot-to-shot times, but shutter lag was a little long, too. On the other hand, the photo quality is some of the best you'll find at their price points, and even better than some more expensive models.
