Old, classic Hibiscus cultivar of unsurpassed beauty. Flowers are double, as a "flower within a flower" with lots of pink-orange shades. It originated as a sport of the red El Capitolio, and shares the same unusual flower shape and also the spreading growth habit with arching stems with few branches.

This is a cultivar of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, which is one of the most widely grown ornamental shrubs in the world. It is a "mistery species" which is not known in the wild and it probably resulted by the crossing of different wild species of HIbiscus native to the islands of the Indian and Pacific ocean. The most similar is Hibiscus fragilis from Mauritius and it was probably one of the main ancestors. Hibiscus arnottianus from Hawaii might have also played an important role, but these are still speculations, while we wait more data from genetic analyses. There are now thousands of cultivars of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and all of them are polyploid, so each new generation of seedling produce exciting combinations of genes and colours.
