Flip Saunders opens up about the Wizards

Today's Wake-Up Call takes a look at what Flip Saunders had to say about some of the Wizards he used to coach and Michael Wilbon's comments on D.C. sports fans.

1. Flip Saunders on John Wall and the Wizards

The last time Flip was in D.C., he had just coached the Wizards to a dismal 2-15 upon being relieved of his coaching duties. When he arrived Tuesday in the nation's capital as head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, he was facing a 17-6 Wizards squad, two wins away from their best start to a season in franchise history. He seemed happy for his old club, but certainly showed some disappointment in some of the players he had to deal with during his stint.

2. There's a very good basketball team in D.C., ya know

Wherever your feelings toward ESPN analyst Michael Wilbon stand, put them aside. The man makes a good point. Sports fans and media in the Washington, D.C. area have always been so caught up in the affairs of the city's professional football team, no matter how depressing things get over there.

But Wilbon wants you all to WAKE UP. Because there's a really good basketball team in the District, too.

3. Martell Webster is working very hard to get on the court

The final piece of the roster is set to make his return to the hardwood potentially within the next week. Webster has been working hard to get to this point. He's the final player on this current roster who has yet to make an appearance with the squad this season due to injury and should bring even more depth to an already very deep bench unit in Washington.

4. A Wall and Big Panda feeding off each other

Are Wall and Bradley Beal the best backcourt duo in the NBA? Probably not. But it sure won't be because of Wall's production. Beal is hitting three's at a very high rate (47.5-percent) but those who watch him know that his productivity and consistency can be better. Either way, Dash and Splash are causing tons of problems in the open floor when Wall gets going on the BW Parkway and kicks it out to his running for a spot-up three in transition (see what I did there?). The two feed off each other perfectly, really, and they're feasting on more than just bamboo.

5. Wizards showing holiday spirit

The Wizards gave back to the community during this holiday season by bringing gifts and toys to local families. It's a great way to bring together the NBA and the nearby communities.
