Andrea L. Taylor (COM ’68) is the inaugural Senior Diversity Officer at Boston University in the Office of the President. Before joining the BU leadership team, she was President & CEO of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, part of the Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution.  

A BU alum and former trustee, Taylor is chairperson of the campus-wide Antiracism Working Group and the Community Safety Advisory Group in support of a range of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across the BU campus. Previously, she was Director of Citizenship and Corporate Giving for Microsoft Corporation in North America.  

As founding director of the Media Fund at the Ford Foundation, she supported global documentary film and broadcast media about civil rights and social justice, such as the award-winning series Eyes on the Prize. Taylor began her career as a journalist at the Boston Globe and subsequently expanded her portfolio to include philanthropy and community service leadership. She provided access to resources, tools for empowerment, and community development for storytellers, amplifying individuals from underrepresented communities.
