A stunning plant, originating from the continent of Africa, it was first collected by botanist Carl Peter Thurnberg in the 1700’s. The name refers to the Greek ‘bous’, meaning ox and ‘phontes’ meaning killer of, as this plant can be fatal to livestock. This plant is found across South Africa and easily identified by its fan-like foliage that erupts from a bulbous base. In its native habitat it grows in savannahs and grasslands.
