This camera is excellent value for money and gives the impression of being solidly made. Use of AA batteries is a plus. I found exposure compensation was needed for best results. Picture quality good for A4 and excellent for smaller prints. OK with NiMH batteies but lithium seemed to give underexposure, possibly due to higher voltage. Lens and anti-shake system meets expectations. ISO speeds are limited range compared with more modern cameras, and reviews are correct in saying that noise becomes noticeable at highest speed. Although there is a Sony-Minolta type hotshoe, external flash is not really practical as a dedicated unit is expensive and the hotshoe adaptors which are on the market do not work with this model, the flash gun needs to send a signal to tell the camera that it is attached otherwise the main synchro contact is inoperative. So, you will get a great camera for mega zoom photograppy in good light but not for using with external flash (unless you use single flash operation and use a repeater shoe or a suitable gun for secondary flash).

I bought this camera after much soul searching and sifting through internet reviews. I have been very pleased with the camera and the quality of the pictures it produces, which are superb. It takes family snaps which are bright and colourful but the features available, enable much more varied uses. The macro features on the camera are amazing. It has two setting, normal and super macro. The detail and image quality produced is simply superb. The video featres are good although the standard setting results in rather average results, the fine setting produces much better results but at the expense of file size. The zoom is superb and really separates this camera from "everyday models". Battery life is good and I have no complaints about the camera. The camera comes with a 16MB SD card which is totally useless - it holds about 3 or 4 pictures on the fine setting and about 9 on the standard setting. I would recommend you buy at least a 512MB card.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Camera!

Having been a dedicated SLR user for years, I eventually decided that digital cameras had improved enough to produce good enough results for my purposes, and I was not disappointed! This is an excellent camera, and even in the first month I am finding myself able to be more creative and experimental than I ever was with my SLR and try out new techniques. Image quality is excellent and the LCD is a good size for viewing, though in bright sunlight it is easier to use the EVF rather than the screen for composing pictures. The zoom capabilities are great and saves lugging a lot of heavy lenses around with me. I'm very pleased with this and am wondering if I will need to use my SLR again - and I've only just started to explore some of the features...
