If you have the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi/400D Digital Field Guide by Charlotte K. Lowrie, then you love this one even more. This book goes more into detail about the functions and techniques of the camera (XTi). It's definitely well worth the $13 for the knowledge you'll attain browsing through this book. The book's photos are in black and white, but that's secondary next to the detailed instructions. It's also smaller than the field guide (sizewise, not pagewise), so it can be tucked away in your camerabag easily.

I just finished reading this guide and it is full of excellent information for users of the Canon EOS Rebel XTi. It provides an excellent coverage for each of the following areas: Features and Functions, In-Camera Processing and File Formats, Camera Menus and the LCD Monitor, Camera Operation Modes, Flash, Lenses and Accessories, and Working with Your Images. It also goes Hand-in-hand with Magic Lantern DVD Guides: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi. This DVD also provides an excellent visual and verbal guide.

A very nice book. I like the tearout laminated wallet-sized guides in the back cover of the book.

I prefer the PIP Expanded Guide book better but Magic Lantern puts out a nice product.

One of the only reasons I purchased this book is that was supposed to come with the quick reference wallet card, this book was misleading.

I always buy a Magic Lantern Guide when I buy a new camera, they are far better than the ones suplied with the camera. I have bought the guides for the 350D, 400D, and the 40D. A suitable size to carry with you for invaluable help in the early days of getting a new camera, and good reference to help get to know the finer points which may get missed. Why pay for features on a camera, and never know they are there or how to use them! Get a Magic Lantern Guide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Canon 400D guide book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 28, 2013
This guide book was got for a friend who bought a Canon 400D DSLR in Dublin City. The camera shop assistant gave her a quick run over on the various functions of the camera. My friend lives in the countryside and has no contact with any photographer or anyone that could advise on how to use the camera. This is where this guide book came about. My friend is now able to change settings to suit her requirements. It is quite compact and goes everywhere with her.
Back in 2005 I bought the KonicaMinolta 5D DSLR camera, and the shop assistant assured me that it was straight forward with setting up the camera, as all the instructions were in a handbook in the box. It wasn't that straight forward. I couldn't get my head around the handbook. I hadn't the foggiest notions regarding anything digital. So I asked one of my sons to help me to set up the camera. 10 minutes later he handed the camera back to me and went through a few things.
Later, I came across the Magic Lantern Guide Book for the KonicaMinolta 5D and I bought it. It opened my eyes. I was now able to understand the functions of the camera fully, and made some changes to the set-up that I son had made. When I bought my Sony A450 DSLR camera, I immediately bought the Magic Lantern Guide Book for it.
A nice touch about these guide books, is that they contain credit card size press-out information sheets. The fit nicely in with my credit cards and come with me everywhere. I have 2 such guide books and they fit nicely in to their respective camera kit bags.
