Product Description

Open this key case way:
There is a screw on the back that needs to be removed first.
Then the two silver side pieces slide to the side (one up, one down) and then pulled outward.
the left side (buttons facing toward you) goes down and the right goes up.
They are a little difficult to slide by hand, I recommend using a flat head to push down and up on each side.

Check the picture of the key grooves.
Picture of the profile view showing why not possible for this item to work in my application, this is not noted by item description. I had originally believed that the poor reviews were from people who not understanding about the plastic coated transponder must be transferred over in addition to the remote core. But after receiving this item it’s clear the grooves of the key are different. On the left you can see this item (or what I received when I order this item) on the right you will see one of the factory provided keys for 2009 Toyota Corolla. This key could never work. I am still keeping remote core and transponder and reordered hoping that I received wrong item initially. Otherwise seems robust, remote worked when I put it, one thing I didn’t notice before I had it in my hand, lock and unlock becomes left/right buttons, where original key lock and unlock is up/down buttons. I am hoping to receive the correct item on my re order I want this to work

You're probably going to have to open the shell to get it cut so the locksmith can cut it well. If you're doing the assembly part yourself, the key won't work unless you grab the sensor in the key (no not the remote) on the bottom near where the key and the shell of the original key remote is.

It's a small black piece and it's kinda tedious to remove I recommend using an exato knife to take off the glue just make sure you don't damage it. There's a place in the shell (the one you either just bought or about to) near the blank key where it sits perfectly.

Some cars don't have this sensor but if you own a Toyta you most likely have this... Especially if your car (any car) is newer than 2008.

The key shells on my 2008 Camry started breaking about 4 years ago - they would fall apart every 18 months or so. The dealer charged hundreds of dollars to retrofit the remotes, replacement shells from amazon were much cheaper but a broken key was still hassle and inconvenient. This has been great so far. You may have to ask a locksmith to help move the chip over, and and be sure to be familiar with the instructions for opening this , but once done its another thing you don't have to worry about. Much more sturdy.

I'd take note of those two things the most. I used a lighter to melt the plastic on my old fob to remove the transponder and place it in the new case as well as the remote. That was probably the easiest part. It was a hassle calling 10-different locksmiths who wouldn't perform the service of cutting the keyblade because they "didn't want to take the risk of cutting a key that wasn't theirs". Finally on the 11th call, I found a locksmith who would do it; basically I wouldn't buy this case with blank key blade if you're not able to find someone to cut it in your locality. As the headline stated, the keyblade jiggles in place and the case doesn't feel that sturdy to begin with. I worry sometimes that it may break off within my ignition and lead to more problems so I take care when starting my car. I also notice when I press the lock button, the button gets stuck under the case so you have to wiggle the button a bit to return it to its original position. This doesn't happen often but it just feels like a minor nuisance having to be wary of these two things. Aside from that, the fob feels great to the touch, I don't worry about sitting on the key blade or damaging upholstery due to keeping my keys in my back pocket. The flip key function is a nice touch for those of you who like fidget gadgets. And for $15 I'd say its worth the money.

My experience on a 2016 Subaru BRZ. It will work! Even as my key requires a chip. Cons, key is a bit wobbly for my taste, quality is not that of a new key fob imo, and it can be a bit tortuous to get back together. That being said for the price it is great. Much better than the giant wonky key with the fob built in from stock. Be aware if your key has a chip then you must remove that from your key and place in the slot in the new one. On mine it was tough and I had to use a heat gun as well as some finely tuned pressure to the correct areas. I would recommend only doing this if you have multiple keys so that you can still have a way to start your car if you make a mistake (I had 2). Lowes also cut my key for free, just make sure you take it in without the rest of the fob (just the actual metal key portion.) Not sure how well it will hold up to the test of time but its a good start.

It’s pure junk. Poorly manufactured and you have to remove the chip out of your old keys. You literally have to cut it out and it’s a pain. I also had it cut to fit my key and that didn’t work well either. I gave up on it and stuck with my old key. Not worth it.
Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2021
I was able to get it to work with no issues for my 2006 Scion TC. Be sure to remove the small chip from the old key and transfer it into the slot of the new flip key, otherwise you won't be able to start the car. This requires a little bit of prying it off because it was glued on to my old key. I highly suggest you NOT doing this if it's you're only key. For the new flip key, the only thing I'd like to add is you will need to remove the blank key blade by using a pin tool and a hammer before cutting/copying. The reason for this is because the flip key case gets in the way and the keysmith won't be able to fully insert the new key, which means it won't be copied correctly. It looks and feels great as if I own a much newer car! The work was worth it!

This is a very good IDEA, but one of the buttons was poorly molded and does not pop back into place properly once pressed. There is also a bit more play to the hinge mechanism than there should be, and the key blank was (is) a bit thinner than that of an OEM Toyota key. (My locksmith had difficulty cutting it so that the cylinder would recognize it.) It works, but unfortunately, I don't expect it to last. A great concept; with better QC/standards, it could have been perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must use security chip from OEM key in new fob!

Works great for 2010 Toyota Corolla. I had to have a locksmith cut the key $5. Hardware stores, etc. would not cut the key. You must remove the security chip from your OEM key and put it into new key fob along with internal OEM remote parts. Without security chip the car won’t start even if the key is cut correctly!
