Japanese language default not surprising to me

Japanese language default not surprising to me
I am giving it 5 stars although I haven't actually purchased it. I have been more than pleased with my HX 30 for several years, and I can't imagine the newer models aren't 5 stars as well. The HX 30 continues to take great pictures even after that bus in Sydney ran over it. (have to view them on my iPad)However, saw the HX 60 for $310-ish and checked it out. Finally figured out the "bad" reviews were due to the Japanese language, not because of the camera. Was sympathetic until I realized the seller is "Japan Premium". Waiting to see if the 400v price will come down with the new model year, but thot I'd bounce in here with a comment. Guess that might make me a Troll, but I think I'm just putting things into perspective for future shoppers.

Best camera I have ever owned. I even like it better than my Nikon D80 DSLR - It's quick has good battery life and you can shoot pics over to your phone with ease.

It all about the apps bout the apps, this is the cheapest Sony for using the timelapse app. The app is difficult to load firmware update required, and you cant really have the sun in frame cause of flaring, but for a $200 camera it does okay. Don't buy it for video, unless you have a tripod, the stabilization is poor. Do buy it if you are looking for a long lens telephoto, again with some cam support it's better. Menu of course has English, just look at an english manual for it and navigate to change language.

My camera came in English so no problem, but when you use it in American NTSC video standard, "running on NTSC" is on the screen at each startup, push the shutter button and it's all fine.

I just purchased this camera for my daughter as a Christmas gift and was so disappointed that the language only comes in
Japanese. I had to return it to Amazon. Very disappointed with Amazon that it was clear about the language. I also
bought a Warranty with it and hope that it can also be returned and my money returned. If not, what a lesson I have
learned.

This camera boasts similar technology to the upscale RX100 series, while maintaining the original HX style. Primarily, the differences lie between build quality/materials, sensor size, and zoom range. How does the HX60V compare to RX100 M2, its closest appearance in terms of body/features? Under each category combines pros and cons, and what to consider. As for being four stars is mainly due to the movie-recording performance.

Limitations. No internal memory. For instance, the internal memory was over 100 megabytes on the HX30V, good for some photos and short movies if no memory card were available. Nice it has a pop-up flash, but unlike the RX series, does not tilt-up, making it not an option for the effect of 'even lighting' when 'bounced' indoors. Flash is a bit over-powering, sometimes washing out a portrait shot. Cannot take photos during movie capture (again, unlike its predecessors), although the quality was quite a disaster there. Sweep Panorama still nice, but unless you are steady enough in good light, the quality is suggestive of strong noise reduction. Battery life is shorter than some other models, but does work in the RX100 series because it is of the same type. The HX30V, for instance, is a smaller battery, which works with its predecessors, such as the HX30V, HX9V, HX5V, and other versions in between. Newer sensor is welcome, which brings on the next category.

Photo quality. Yes, it is very remarkable, even close to the RX100 at any given ISO. What a surprise. Good thing, in that only the RX100 series also can shoot in RAW. Great for large prints, especially since looking at pixel level almost noise-free. The algorithms used in these later Sony Cybershots must be so fine-tuned. Photos are a little softer at max telephoto, but the autofocus and distance performance is great. Does tend to struggle to an extent through a window that needs cleaning. The HX60V is great for close-ups of the Moon, where there would be some fine noise reduction and noise because likely the ISO may be up a little in Auto Mode. Sunset photos are OK but HDR could really help the highlight clipping problem. Handheld Twilight does not necessarily yield a better result.

Movie quality: Challenging, especially at telephoto and low-light. Tends to hunt and be out of focus. Might be because of the 30X zoom, but even the 16X zoom on the HX30V, performance seemed better. Unlike that model and its predecessors, no 720p option is available, like the RX100, most NEX, and alpha interchangeable lens systems. Progressive AVCHD with the new 'X' sensor does not really yield a noticeable difference in movie-recording, where it mainly excels for the photos. Even though taking photos is impossible during movie recording, the quality of stills in earlier models was not worth using. Quite 'Impressionistic.'

Overall features: Nice thumb grip, hotshoe, stereo recording, new menu system as in the alpha series, and very good plastic build. RX100 series may be magnesium-alloy.

Important note: The HX60V is a European model. Change the factory default setting to NTSC (PAL and NTSC cannot be used on the same card, warned by the cameras instruction) if you live in the US, as I do. When the camera is turned on, every time, it will display: "Running on NTSC." Do not forget to change it from PAL to NTSC, and press any button so the camera can be used. It may be easy to forget, 'why is my camera not ready?'

Right off the bat, this camera is great for the price. It does have a wrist strap, common for a small camera. Recommended? Yes, especially if great photo quality is of most importance in the most common, smallest of sensors category. Thanks for reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony HX-60V - A compelling mid-range point-and-shoot camera
Reviewed in India on December 1, 2015
This is by far one of the best point-and-shoot cameras in this price range. If you want the next best thing to the DX100, this is the best option at the 20k range.
The initial setup was very quick and easy. The battery pack came charged to about 50% I believe. I would recommend getting a full charge on before you take it out for shooting. It takes around about 2 hours for a full charge (0-100%).
The autofocus is one of the best available and almost always acquires the subject quite accurately. For a mid-range point-and-shoot this camera has quite a decent wide-angle lens which along with the higer resolution really helps with some wide-shots.
This camera performs very well in nice bright conditions outdoors and indoors. Low-light performance is quite good too but it is not the best aspect of this camera. You can get away with some decent low light shots but don't expect great results in very dim lit conditions.
You have a discrete dial for exposure compensation if you want to manually select that depending on the lighting conditions. This seemed to come in handy for me only when trying to get some good shots only in very low-light environments. I suggest that if your use-case is simply general purpose shooting, leave this knob alone, which is what I did, and let Sony's image processing do the work for you.
Sony does some small bit of post processing, but nothing too over-the-top; just some essential colour-correction and the like. This gives photos a very natural feel.
Leaving this camera in the automatic mode selection is recommended if you are going to simply "point-and-shoot" at your subjects as this consistenly seems to give me better shots over a wide variety of shot-types, viz., macro, super-macro, long-range, etc.
But if you are the camera-savvy type you have a good selection of manual control as well.
The image stabilization is very good too. You will definitely be thanking Sony for this feature if you like to take a lot of long range shots with that high zoom (which is actually very good too; I managed to shoot photos of some very far off birds and get very clear shots), where it really comes in handy.
Video recording performance is pretty good too. I haven't tested it out that well since I don't plan on using it for that purpose. The HD (1080p) is very good. I recommend getting a faster memory card, though, if you plan on using this camera for recording video.

Overall a very easy and fun camera to use. I thourough enjoy using this camera. It produces consistently good shots and managing photos is also very easy with the Wifi and NFC transfer this model comes with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good cam for the price
Reviewed in India on April 12, 2015
Using this for over a month. Here are the pros and cons for this cam :

Pros:
1. Sturdy build.
2. Fits nicely in hand, got a good and non slippery grip.
3. Pics come out clear and crisp.
4. Other than the auto mode, this has full manual control for aperture, shutter speed. This is a boon for us who like to have more control while taking pics.
5. Pics clicked in the auto mode are correctly exposed in most of the cases.
6. 30x optical zoom works well. No pixelation observed till now.

Cons.
1. The carry pouch provided with this is of little use. It's better to buy a separate weather proof pouch.
2. High ISO pics (pics clicked in low light) have quite some grains.
