The first section, Quick Tour, allows you the satisfaction of taking pictures immediately. Then Chapter 1 explores each of the controls and displays. Chapter 2 describes the use of each of the manual and automatic photography modes.
The remaining chapters guide you through making good photos, including exposure, ISO, depth of field, color, light, lens choice, composition basics, and techniques for great photos. The final section covers downloading and editing images.
The book is well laid out with many charts, tables and color illustrations. Appendixes and a comprehensive index allow you to find answers to your questions quickly.
Whether you start at the beginning and work your way through methodically or just pick it up and look for guidance on a particular topic, you're going to learn something every time you refer to the book. Well worth the small investment to unlock the potential of your highly capable Canon SLR.
Anyway, my Guide came two days ago and I've increased my knowledge 200%. I still have a long way to go but just from thumbing ahead through the Guide, I can tell that I'm on the way to understanding and implementing the great features of the Rebel XTi. I also bought Digital SLRs for Dummies and actually started reading it first. I soon realized it wasn't going to jump start me like the Guide has. First of all, it was very generic. It may still be of value but for the place in time that I am now, the Guide is the book for me. The DSLR for Dummies takes an approach similar to the Guide but the Guide is written specifically for my DSLR. When it shows you pictures, it shows you the settings that were used to obtain the shots. Many times it gives multiples of the same scene using different settings and explaining why they turned out the way they did. So, is it for somebody that knows everything about DSLRs and photography? Probably not, but for someone like myself, it's invaluable.
Oh, I understand the rule of thirds very well thank you...
