Bees are flying insects, classified within the superfamily Apoidea within the suborder Apocrita, which also contains Wasps and ants, with which bees are very related.

The Romanian bee (Apis mellifera carpatica) was formed in the specific pedo-climatic and basic mellifera conditions in the Carpatho-Danubian area.

The temperate continental climate in our country is characterized by relatively low rainfall, high temperature variations and strong winds.

Five main bioapic areas are accepted for our bee (reference):

Southern Danube plain (including Dobrogea and Delta);

Subcarpathian Hill area;

Western Plain (including Banat);

Transylvanian Plateau;

The Moldavian Plateau.

Bee Feed

Bees are adapted to feeding on nectar and pollen, the first as a source of energy (because of the sugar content), the second as a source of protein (used more to feed larvae).

Nectar is obtained from the flowers of melliferous plants with the help of the trunk.

Features Bee

Many species of bees are little known. The smallest Bee is the dwarf Bee (minimum Trigona) with a length of about 2.1 mm (5/64"). The largest bee in the world is Megachile pluto, which can reach 39 mm (1.5") in length.

The most common types of bees in the northern hemisphere are halictidae, or sweat-attracted bees, small bees that are often mistakenly considered wasps or flies. The most famous bee species is the European bee (Apis mellifera). The care of bees of this species is called beekeeping or beekeeping.

The life span of the working bee depends on the degree of wear and tear as a result of the intense activities carried out by it (brood growth and nectar and pollen picking activity). Thus, the bees hatched in the active season (from spring, March to summer, around august) live only 40 days while the bees hatched in autumn live until next spring, when the generation exchange is made (6-9 months).

The life span of drones is between two and eight weeks and varies depending on the season (active or resting period) and geographical area.

The Queen is the longest-lived of the members of the bee family and can live up to 8 years (but it is economically efficient only a year or two, after which it must be changed), is active throughout life and can lay 1500-2500 and even 3000 eggs in 24 hours in June. During this period of intense ponta the Queen is carefully cared for and well fed by the bees in her suite.
