The Real Story Of The Movie "Orphan"

Barbora Skrlová, who was 33 at the time, persuaded a family to adopt her by pretending she was a young child. Her genuine story is almost more bizarre than fiction.

The early years of Barbora Skrlová are hardly known. Since her case gained widespread attention, no official documents have been made public. Barbora, on the other hand, had a severe form of hypopituitarism, which prevents her pituitary gland from producing adequate hormones, which slowed her growth. She appeared like a 13-year-old when she was ultimately taken into custody.

Barbora's parents were aware of her significant mental health issues from an early age. They chose to commit her to a mental institution in the hopes that it would help her and that one day she may have a normal life, even though it is uncertain whether these issues were caused by her hypopituitarism.

Barbora Sklová, though, managed to get away. How she did this is still a mystery, but it was her escape that set off the terrifying sequence of events in this tale.

KLARA MAUEROVÁ AND HER CHILDREN WERE BARBORA SKRLOVÁ'S FIRST VICTIMS

Klara and her children

A single mother of two, Klara Mauerová lived in the Czech Republic. Following her divorce from the father of her children, Klara grew lonely and persuaded her sister Katerina to move in.

While attending university to become a teacher, Klara met Barbora Skrlová. One day, Barbora came up to Klara and pretended to be a 12-year-old girl named Anicka who had run away from a bad group home.

Barbora was able to accomplish this since she suffers from a disease that causes her to look smaller and younger than the majority of people her age.

Barbora was brought home by Klara, who cared for her like a family member. She intended to adopt her someday.

Barbora Skrlová insisted that she was very ill and required many medical visits, but she would only allow Klara's sister Katerina to accompany her. It comes out that Katerina, who was posing as Barbora's doctor and detailing her "treatments" to Klara, knew that Barbora was not who she claimed to be.

Barbora profited from Klara's disorganized mental condition since Klara had battled an untreated mental disorder since she was a little girl.

Barbora persuaded Klara to abuse her other children by claiming that they were the root of all of her issues.

Following Barbora's example, Klara finally locked the kids up permanently in cages and kept an eye on them using a baby monitor because she was frightened of losing Barbora's love.

When the next-door neighbor of Barbora and Klara had a kid and bought the same kind of baby monitor, this abuse was discovered. The signals became muddled, and the neighbors saw pictures of the terrible events from next door.

After receiving a report of child abuse from the neighbors, the police detained Klara and Katerina. Barbora Skrlová found a way out and left the nation.

AS "ADAM" IN NORWAY

As Adam

Barbora Skrlová chose to carry on her fraud in Norway after leaving the Czech Republic. To make herself appear younger, she underwent liposuction and a breast reduction.

In order to go to an Oslo home for homeless kids, she pretended to be Adam, a 12-year-old boy. After that, she was taken up by a couple who adopted her and put her in the Marienlyst school.

Before it was realized that Adam was not who he claimed to be, Barbora was able to deceive educators, social workers, and law enforcement for a number of months.

Skrlová was ultimately discovered for who she was and taken into custody. She was given a twelve-year prison term after being deported to the Czech Republic. She was only imprisoned for five years before being freed for mental health reasons.

WHERE IS BARBORA NOW?

Barbora Skrlová

Now a free woman, Barbora Skrlová resides in the Czech Republic. She keeps a quiet profile and has avoided the spotlight since being freed.
